Of course, Cotto and Canelo could have fought each other without permission from Golovkin, but not for the WBC title. And if they didn't think the title mattered, they wouldn't have agreed to pay him $800k.

It's inconcievable that a fight like this could take place without any contracts being signed!
i dont think that the step a side fee was part of the contract for this fight, if anything there was a contract between ggg and cotto for that matter , but then if GGG is all about the belts then he should be after the WBC, why is canelo fighting for a vacated MW belt instead of GGG? the wbc should give canelo his sanctioning fees back and allow GGG to fight for the title in his next fight...

Cotto has done literally absolutely nothing to suggest he should be earning the lions share of profits, talk about hypocritical.
All Cotto did was beat 16 world champions, which is 5 more than Canelo and GGG combined. You're right, he's done nothing. Don't worry, soon GGG will be the king of every belt. Funny that he'll get the WBC the same way he got the others...fighting nobody.

GGG has already been paid. If he hadnt been, then Cotto would have simply been stripped, and no title would be on the line on Saturday

Now there could be a question as to WHO exactly paid GGG, whether it was Roc Nation on Cottos behalf, or some combo of Roc/Cotto, but thats their problem. According to K2, the money was paid.

People seem to be getting all excited, like "oh boy woo hoo Cotto hosed GGG", like its some personal victory for them. But remember, no step-aside deal would mean no WBC title would be on the line, period. It was a requirement of making the fight in the first place. The fact that Canelo can still win it indicates the step-aside deal was fulfilled.

Belts dont matter. Cotto did not beat any champions.

LOL, this blew up on the WBC's face. They didn't strip Cotto for not fighting triple G because they knew they would make more money on the Cotto/Canelo fight.

Now they get nothing. These belts are meaningless, they are too many of them already and multiple champions per division. It is a real joke, so I don't know why anybody would feel bad for any of these sanctioning bodies.

It is not even prestigious no more to have a belt

the only one to agree something was cotto, not like canelo owed GGG something...
