How can anyone except the WBC be on their side? Are you ppl ****ing ******? Part of the reason boxing is where its at is because of these ******ed organizations and their million belts so that no one ever knows who's actually champ and who holds a fake belt. Cotto is the lineal champ and he hasnt fought the best guy who's the real champ..explain that **** to me? And ur going to side with the morons who created this scenario just so they can make money off of fighters hard earned work? These organizations literally do nothing other than make up rules and hand outs belts for sanctioning fees lmao its not like they're the commission or promoters or managers...they're not even necessary, ****ing get rid of all of them, create some other ****ing imaginary belt that the fans will vote on who they think is the real champ at every weight right now and let these fighters fight for ONE BELT! ****

What's the controversy and why is everyone pretending to be so excited?

WBC told Cotto if he's going to duck Golovkin he must either pay $800,000 or be stripped.

He chose to be stripped rather than pay his way out.

There isn't much else to say. Step aside fees aren't a new thing.

              Ggg

GGG will have the title after Cotto takes canelo apart. some people pay for a worthless belt some people fight for money. 1.1 is way too much 300k is too much for a belt. After this PPV Cotto- Canelo 2 will have hbo begging and wbc belt back on free hbo

And no one made a big fuss about it.

Cotto is just looking more and more pathetic by the minute he's disgraced the sport and now he's wanting a free pass on avoiding the real champion, If you don't think you're a real middleweight then do one of the two retire or go back down to 154lbs I'd say you choose the former.
Dont worry IF Cotto wins then GGG will probably be elevated to Champion...yay real champion and there you go.

And pretty much has said hes going back down and now title gone.

IMO Miguel Cotto doesnt need belts.

And if he loses he can rematch for the same belt.

i read this somewhere else, it makes sense:

"300K is the standard 3% of the fighter's guaranteed purse in a non-unification title fight (Cotto is guaranteed $10 million). We can all debate as to whether or not world title belts are a racket, but the fact remains that the WBC did not unfairly try to "target" Cotto. He opted not to pay the standard fee because he knew that if he wins, Golovkin will be next and he wants no part of Triple G.

Why pay fees to defend a belt that you know (immediately after this fight) will (IF you win) be stripped from you when you ultimately duck the best fighter in the weight class in which you are presently fighting?

It is not ****ing rocket science! The sanctioning fee is a waste for Cotto if he loses, but it's also a waste if he wins, because there is no ****ing way in the world that Cotto will ever fight Golovkin.

It's "pre-ducking": ducking before you can be legitimately accused of being a duck. Because it's an indisputable duck if you drop a title to avoid a mandatory and that is what Cotto would be forced to do if he won"

And beside all of that its bullshit having two LMWs fight at 155 for a supposed MW title.
                      Greed, greed?
Do you even begin to understand how many terms Canelo had to accept to make this fight happen with this worthless diva Cotto?
Cotto has done literally absolutely nothing to suggest he should be earning the lions share of profits, talk about hypocritical.
