I'll be rooting for Cotto saturday, but it's clear that Cotto was looking for a way out of fighting Golovkin(if he was to win)& he got it..Most likely if he was to win saturdy he going to leave to the title vacant so why pay the sanctioning fee.

What wbc supposed to sanction for free. Cotto isn't fighting for free. Wbc deserves their fee. It's not like they got a cut of ggg step aside money. They allowed the step aside so they can sanction Canelo v cotto. Now cotto is cutting them out. Wbc got the shaft so they retaliated by stripping him. Seems fair to me.

Well, I think by the WBC taking the belt away from Cotto BEFORE the "voluntary defense" which is the nature of the step aside $$$, it defaults the agreement. I but if the fight w/ Canelo happened and then Cotto refuse to fight GGG, then it validates that step aside agreement..might be wrong..I'm pretty sure there will be litigation on this if Cotto/RN paid that money already.

I think what really happened was that rumor has it Cotto was upset because someone had whispered that Canelo was going to get a family di$count on the sanctioning fees.

              To make more money.

Obviously, a fight with Canelo at this time is far more lucrative than a fight with GGG. Having the belt enhanced Cotto's leverage in negotiations with Canelo (i.e., allowed him to negotiate for more money).

Paying GGG $800,000 to step aside was probably a good business decision for Cotto because the amount Cotto is making fighting Canelo is probably much more than $800,000 greater than he would have made fighting GGG at this time.

The belt was definitely relevant financially...but I get the sense that Cotto has a pretty healthy ego without it too, so the belt's relevance has its limits.

You were probably one of the fools who picked Sergio, but since he got dominated in that fashion excuses pour out. What does a player taking steroids have to do with this? That theory is more about cheating the sport which has nothing to do with this conversation.

You guys are so naive. Cotto refused to pay sanctioning fees so he gets stripped for it. Same as Mayweather who refused to pay wbo sanctioning fees.

Difference is that Mayweather refused the fees because he was being asked to drop his two jmw titles in order to keep the welterweight wbo whereas Cotto refused the fees so he can have an excuse for ducking GGG.

His excuse now will be that he got stripped and no longer has to fight GGG, but unless you a rabid fanboy or are just that naive, you should know better.

This is the same as Cotto basically vacating the title so he can avoid his mandatory.

                      WBC are inconsistent.

                      What is the reasoning?
Floyd's situation was different bro. Floyd had to rematch Maidana because of how close the first fight was and the fact that Maidana was the champ who lost so deserved a rematch. Floyd can't be in two places at once fighting different fights so they had to sanction the Maidana fight and give Floyd an extention on defending the 154 belt.

HOWEVER, if they had given him an extention instead of letting him defend it against Maidana, then that would int turn have delayed tha Pacquiao bout and it might have never happened as a result. So they chose to let him defend the 154 belts against Maidana so they could secure a fight against Pacquiao.

There was an article about this a few months back where the wbc pres explained this in detail, but people don't want to pay entertain those kind of articles because it contradicts their hateful agenda against certain fighters and/organisations.
