It's up to HBO. Provodnikov, for instance, has been a HBO regular but they didn't bother covering his fight in Moscow, which was a locally-promoted fight. This is nothing new. Every now and then fighters who become famous opt to fight in their home lands even just for once to entertain their people, ie, Cotto, Canelo, Marquez, Pacquiao, etc. Kovalev's next fight was supposed to be held in Russia, but the opponent, Beterbiev, backed out.

This is nothing new, their US networks and promoters allow it without their meddling.

Golovkin would be beaten, but the Man to do it has to be more skillful than a smaller than him Canelo level fighter.

I don't mind the fight but was wondering if HBO would pay for it.
        Has either team asked?

If HBO doesn't like the Lara vs GG fight, Team Golovkin could opt to take it in Kazakhstan and recruit some rich promoters there.

Cotto and Canelo won't be fighting 3G any time soon, anyway. Team 3G might as well accommodate this fight in their 4 fights/year schedule.

They'll run out of options eventually.

With the much better chance to win? I think so. Quite frankly, I think the loser of that fight and Andy Lee give him more trouble than Lara. I'd rather see those fights first.

Assuming GGG is going to keep fighting 3 times a year (and he might not) if there was some way they could work Lara in there I wouldn't mind it, but to act like this is the great challenge he's avoiding is crazy.

Just because Lara is running his mouth he gets to move up in weight and jump the line? Well Tim Bradley said he'd fight him too. Do we want to see that fight?
              Yes, we do.

And they passed Lara over for Monroe, not for the Quillin/Jacobs winner

There is NO reason NOT to make that fight bro, Golovkin is fighting scrubs.

They have to be able to justify the cost, and Lara versus GGG doesn't at what Lara wants.
Golovkin's excuse-machine is fanboy accountant powered.....

If he is not gonna fight Ward, the least Golovkin could do is fight Lara.

They refused to consider Mora, a lower-tier name opponent.

That is 3 mover/spoilers right there they refused to even consider.

That is obviously not a coincidence.

They don't want any hiccups right now, and they don't want to risk Golovkin looking bad or failing to put away a supposed lower-tier opponent.

                  Seen all this before.

I really do think GGG beats Lara, he is awkward but a true test for GGG. If he can KO Lara then he can beat anyone in my opinion.

                    • All Lara has to do is cut his cost, because that's what holds the fight up

HBO has deemed Lara versus GGG a non-PPV event, so to pay for the cost of Lara, HBO would need a discount. It's that simple.
