IMO this is a very good idea..

Also people mention Canelo having to move up, so will Lara he rehydrates around the same weight as Canelo.
    I think it's a bad idea.
It doesn't really solve the problem.

That said I don't see a simple solution to the problem.

      Bad idea.

24 hours to get that cerebrospinal fluid cushioning the brain again is vital.

They will still try and shrink down to the smallest possible weight.

Exactly the only solution if people want boxers to be the weight in the ring as the belt they are fighting for would be random weigh testing and boxers would have to be within say 10% of the weight category limit.

That would have to be it.

I'm somewhat ambivalent about this notion. On the one hand, you want to protect the safety of both fighters by playing on even playing field and I get that and its a very noble proposition.

However on the other hand, the majority of these fighters are not losing the weight the right way. They are not burning muscle in order to lose body fat but are straining and draining their kidneys up to 30lb or more in order to lose body water and that is not safe. It's hazardous to their overall health; Not to mention their kidneys.

Moreover, they can only rehydrate up to only 25 percent of the water weight they cut which can potentially lead to some very serious and irreversible health problems like the loss of electrolytes, dehydration, heat exhaustion and organ failure.

It sounds like both those points are on the same hand to me.

How does a check weight weigh in add any protection to fighters?

Are you suggesting they'd dehydrate less for the first?

I understand what you are saying but to the detriment to the fighters, they would no longer enjoy that 24 hour window to replenish all of those nutrients, vitamins and minerals they depleted while cutting water weight. Moreover, the opportunity to weigh closer to their natural weight on fight night would be lost because they can only weigh 10lb above their contracted fight weight.

To be clear, I think a second weigh in doesn't help

I agree its overall a bad idea by the WBC. First there's a 30 day, then a 7 day, then an additional weigh in check between 48 to 72 hrs before fight time and then another one on fight night. That sounds a bit excessive to me. That's four different weigh in checks. Why don't they just have one weigh in on the night of the fight like they did in the old days of boxing?

                      You don't agree with me.
I think more weigh ins are good. It means fighters have to be more consistently at the weight. As I said I'd go further and make it random.

One Weigh in on the day is bad for the health of boxers.
