So what's the deal with the Roman gonzalez haters ?

i find it funny that many posters here seem to have developed a strong dislike for a fighter they didn't even know existed before late 2014 ... a fighter fighting in divisions they don't even follow , against opponents they never heard of and never bothered looking up since these fights are never broadcasted by the major networks .

is the hate simply a push back against what they perceive as HBO hype ? are they simply annoyed that some magazine had some fighter they never heard of as their top pound for pound guy ? is it simply their ignorance of the names bellow the 122 lbs divisions and the baseless assumptions that Gonzalez is feasting on cab drivers ?

what's there to hate ? the fact that he's been the undisputed number 1 fighter in 3 divisions ? the fact that he finishes fights ? his exciting offensive style ?

It has to be one of the other things you mentioned...cuz there's absolutely nothing about his fighting style for anyone to hate.

Is Roman getting THAT much hate? I'm not really seeing it. I mean he gots the typical "lil guy" **** he gots to contend with as all lil guys do. Beyond that seems like people most people like him & hold him in high regard & there are few haters.

Estrada had to come down in wright the first time. Why not fight him now at the same weight?

I remember very well the backlash that the Ring,ESPN and other major publications got when they crowned him P4P -- Boxingscene stalled a bit but there were enough threads on that topic. Roman has silenced a lot of the critiques lately with his recent KO over Viloria ; there was a good number of poster cheering for the Hawaiian. Then earlier this week the Japanese phenom Inoue made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with Gonzalez. Now they are running out of ideas and desperate so its no surprise they had to go way up to 122 and started using Rigo as a 'real' test.

i'm not disagreeing with you .

i'm just convinced that the majority of people who hate on Gonzalez here have no clue who Estrada is .
the fact that they think the best fight to make is Gonzalez-Rigo at catchweight proves they don't know anything about the divisions bellow 122.

The thing that impresses me the most is he is a really cool guy, genuinely nice. As to his skills, He reminds me of a much better version of Leo Santa Cruz, and I mean much better. Right now, he seems to do everything right. Every fighter has weaknesses but that doesn't mean they can reign for a long time. I would like to see him against the Japanese guy and a rematch with Estrada but he is the goods.
