No one needs to be champion emeritus is the bottom line. We all know Mayeather was a bad mfer. This is just another bs title, mostly just in name only like Vitali's previously was, that no one should give a f#ck about. When a guy is out he's out. If he comes back & deserves to fight the best he'll get a fight with the best regardless of this position/belt.Comment

"Mayweather has been given the status of WBC Champion Emeritus."
More like Chump Asparagus or IV Uranus.
Never understood the point of a emeritus title, they don't even make $ from sanctioning fees for that one from my understanding. Its like some "we know you're retiring...we know that...but we'd kinda love to take 3% of your purse in the event you decide to fight again...so we know you're retiring...but we want dibs on 3% of your next fight purse in event you decide to fight again" type bull****.Comment

All the WBC has done here is declare that Mayweather is a retired champion and that his championship is now vacant. I don't really see what the issue is. You're upset that Mayweather can get a title shot if he comes out of retirement? Why?Comment

If the Cotto/Canelo winner vacates to move down to 154, I wouldn't be surprised if the WBC names them champion emeritus so they can fight for their old title if they ever move to 160.
They can't get Champion Emeritus status unless they retire from the sport or are injured. The WBA has the same title called Champion in Recess. Vitali is currently (from what I hear) Champion Emeritus. I know he was Champion Emeritus when he was injured and out the sport for a couple of years and if he have that status now, its as a retired fighter.Comment
