He had a few years out then got a shot at Samuel Peter in his first fight back if i remember correctly.

It's not even much of a talking point. Basically Floyd will no longer be 147 and 154 champion, others will fight for the vacant titles and if he decides to come back, he can get an automatic shot at the title holder without having to work his way into a mandatory position. That's all it is. Not even much of a story really.
    basically....

Seriously. The man is retired. Take his freaking belts and have two other fighters face off for them.

I thought thats what I said.

No one needs to be champion emeritus is the bottom line. We all know Mayeather was a bad mfer. This is just another bs title, mostly just in name only like Vitali's previously was, that no one should give a f#ck about. When a guy is out he's out. If he comes back & deserves to fight the best he'll get a fight with the best regardless of this position/belt.

"Mayweather has been given the status of WBC Champion Emeritus."

More like Chump Asparagus or IV Uranus.

I'm sure Floydie will give back to the sport by teaching the young guns the ins and outs of IV use without being detected.

Cuz it's like the U.S. economy... way too top heavy. That why we complain. We should be concentrating on the young guns not the has-been IV King.

Indeed. He!!, they made an exception when he was basically caught juicing.

              Pretty much nailed it.

You're acting like Mayweather was just given a championship along the lines of the WBA's super, WBC's Diamond, etc.

All the WBC has done here is declare that Mayweather is a retired champion and that his championship is now vacant. I don't really see what the issue is. You're upset that Mayweather can get a title shot if he comes out of retirement? Why?
I just don't see the sense in silly **** & this is silly ****. If the Yankees said they were making Derek Jeter the shortstop emeritus upon his retirement I'd have said that was some dumb **** too. I wouldn't say I'm upset about anything with this...just saying dumb **** is dumb ****.

If the Cotto/Canelo winner vacates to move down to 154, I wouldn't be surprised if the WBC names them champion emeritus so they can fight for their old title if they ever move to 160.

They can't get Champion Emeritus status unless they retire from the sport or are injured. The WBA has the same title called Champion in Recess. Vitali is currently (from what I hear) Champion Emeritus. I know he was Champion Emeritus when he was injured and out the sport for a couple of years and if he have that status now, its as a retired fighter.
