At one time, being a four division champion meant a lot more. There were very few but now there are several. The only reason is more divisions and titles. Three divisions was damn near impossible when there were eight. But two and three division champion was much more respected.

James Toney beat Michael Nunn for the lineal Middleweight championship.Okay so we need to get working on a huge list then to do this lol
Carlos Cuenca
Pauli Malinaggi
Kell Brook
Jamie McDonnell
James Toney (say what you want but when he faced the best of his division he ALWAYS lost)
This list as you said it really could go on and on but those were just a random spurt of guys that came to mind.
Come on NSB. We have to do better this is embarrassing.Comment

Doesn't excuse the fact he got took to school by someone like Dave Tiberi who wasn't anything special.
James Toney when he stepped up against the BEST of his division ALWAYS lost, that fact remains.Comment

Stop deflecting in an attempt to escape your error. OP asked who would have never been a champion. Toney was the real, legitimate Middleweight champion. Dude, you eat fail for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it stems from your hatred for American fighters.Comment

James Toney never fought Bernard Hopkins and as soon as he fought a real champion in Roy Jones Jr he got toyed with, he doesn't belong in the same breath as guys who would have been the main champion the guy blatantly ducked many big fights such as Eubank Sr, Nigel Benn and so on all because he wanted to hide away in America fighting guys like Dave Tiberi
Then he goes on to losing in a Prize Fighter tournament to a former sparring partner hahahahahahahaha!!Comment

Woooowww. This post reaks of failure mixed with DKSAB. He fought Roy Jones at 168 and Hopkins wasn't even in the picture when Toney was Middleweight champion.James Toney never fought Bernard Hopkins and as soon as he fought a real champion in Roy Jones Jr he got toyed with, he doesn't belong in the same breath as guys who would have been the main champion the guy blatantly ducked many big fights such as Eubank Sr, Nigel Benn and so on all because he wanted to hide away in America fighting guys like Dave Tiberi

Hid in USA fighting guys like Dave Tiberi, oh I can't come to Britain
"huurmmm uurmmm gaargh guuh dey fite me"
Dude was made punch drunk by non-hitters like Tiberi and other pillow punchers imagine how badly he'd be beat up in this current era, doesn't even seem fair what an overrated hype-job he is but he American doe but he black n doe de shoulder roll I gotta stick with him because Floyd doe.
Topic clearly says who'd be the main champion regardless and Toney got constant gifts throughout his hyped up MW career
Now look at him, punch drunk even worse than before and losing to guys like Gavern and god knows who else but
"he be champion in era of just one main guy"

Hilarious!Comment

so you're saying that if mosley and de la hoya didnt fight for the number 1 spot at 147, and if vernon forrest didn't beat mosley, and mayorga didn't knock out forrest, and spinks didn't decision mayorga...who got knocked out by judah....there's some other champion who didn't exist that would have been the champion instead of those guys? who would have been the champion then?
i wanna slap so many people in this thread.Comment
