Would Golovkin really walk away from a Canelo payday?

GGG said he'd go down to 154 for Floyd. Alvarez isn't Mayweather but that would still be a huge purse, the highest in the sport available to Golovkin at this point. Why wouldn't he go down in weight for that?

Seems to me like he'd be shooting himself in the foot if he prefers to pick up a vacated belt and continue getting 97k PPV buys instead.
I disagree about GGG getting a huge payday for facing either one of them. They are the financial A-Side. GGG would have to take the much smaller purse. A purse he could make by simply defending his own title. He should not have to make weight concessions for a unification fight and belt in his own weight class. If they won't fight him, they have to hand him their belt. Canelo doing that will severly hurt his image among his Mexican fanbase. They will not like it one bit.

I agree that GGG wouldn't be the A-side.

But even if he gets the lower end of a 60-40 or 70-30 split don't you think that would still dwarf his current earnings, especially if he gets a portion of the PPV sales?

Golovkin is fighter, he not businessman.

Plus, he's already got plenty of money and makes over $1 Million each fight. I hope he calls shenanigans on Canelo/Cotto and makes them drop the belt if they're being a *****.

Alvarez wants 155, GGG wants 160.

I think meeting halfway between their preferred weights at 157.5 would be okay.

I could picture either one of them saying his own PPV was a failure so he simply gets a purse, flat fee. No ratios etc. He would get a couple million to land the fight, take it. Do not however give concessions like weight, gloves etc. He will have to plant his feet down at some point. If they then walk then it is on them.

I'd be interesting in seeing if Canelo would be pulling a Rid**** Bowe if he did win the fight.

They have to fight eventually down the road. Golovkin can campaign at 160 all he wants and keep Canelo at 154/155 until he drains his body dry. Canelo weighs more than GGG on fight night, it's only a matter of time.

I think there is a legit question about if GGG can even make 155. Sure he said he'd go down to 154, but sometimes your mouth writes checks your ass can't cash. Guys say **** all the time. The reality is GGG has never fought as a pro below 158lbs & he was fighting in the 165lb division in his last couple years as an amateur. And also Canelo has never fought above 155 so I think these few lbs of difference could stop the fight from happening next if anyone tries playing their hand to fast or aggressive.

If he can make it & push comes to shove I'd be really surprised if he didn't take the fight at 155. I tend to think K2 will try to push hard at a ~157, 158lb middleground. With how nutty K2 has been lately who knows if that is public negotiations or their true thoughts & opinions. Should be interesting to see how all this goes down & hopefully really f#cking interesting to see them fight.

I don't think K2 would walk away its the biggest financial fight for GGG and they said they'd drop to 154 fr Floyd well this is the next best thing and Canelo has all the negotiating power

It wont matter anyways if it's at 150-160 GGg is going to r.ape Canelo and kill all the hype.

I just hope K2 doesnt f.uck around and think that they'll get credit for getting a meaningless WBC handed to them with out a legitimate scalp attached to it.

I mean it's not even worth celebrating getting all 4 straps if the names you had to get them would be Lemiux, Lee , Intern #1 , Intern #2

It may be the next best thing, but it's not good enough. Going from a Mayweather ppv to a Canelo ppv is like if you're on a deserted island with Kate Upton and you end up masturbating.

It is worth celebrating if he gets all the belts ... if it was so easy, everyone would do it.
