Would Golovkin really walk away from a Canelo payday?

If the fight was offered to him at 155 pounds?

GGG said he'd go down to 154 for Floyd. Alvarez isn't Mayweather but that would still be a huge purse, the highest in the sport available to Golovkin at this point. Why wouldn't he go down in weight for that?

Seems to me like he'd be shooting himself in the foot if he prefers to pick up a vacated belt and continue getting 97k PPV buys instead.

I don't think Canelo is confident about beating Golovkin after seeing Lemieux get his ass handed, in all honesty.

BUT: this is Canelo we are talking about. I'm hoping the 155 response was just a preemptive attempt for starting negotiations early with GGG.

I don't think Canelo needs him to be honest. If he beats Cotto he will be huge, probably the biggest PPV attraction in the game next to Pacquiao.

GGG won't walk away from an offer from Canelo or Cotto no matter the weight. He needs that big fight and he'd suck weight in a sauna suit to get it. We've seen the numbers GGG is doing without them. The belt means nothing without the big prestigious win behind it.

A Canelo/ Cotto payday would really only be a payday for them. GGG would be the short changed guy and get a couple million. He can earn that on his own and by calling his own shots. Egos come into play here and GGG making either one drop their belt to avoid him, is sort of symbolic. It makes them look bad and him look good.

I think the main problem is GGG doesn't give a fuq, he's gonna do what he wants. Canelo gonna fight it he isn't gonna going to fight.

What people fail to understand is GGG gonna make money, he's HBO Golden Boy. GGG will never have to move up. He's in tremendous shape and a small MW.

But Canelo will have to move up eventually if he will want to be taken seriously and GGG will be waiting there ,with all the titles, for Canelo.
