there comes a point you have to stop crying about being ducked and just fight ANYBODY. or MOVE UP and challenge bigger guys. this is 100% rigo's fault, i don't feel bad for him. they should've stripped him sooner. great boxer, dumb as a rock though, who didn't see this coming.

Rigondeaux signed a co-promotional deal with Top Rank when he won his WBA title from Rico Ramos. Arum was high on him and even stated that him and Gamboa would beat Donaire's ass if they ever fought. He put him on the Pac/Bradley undercard against Teon Kennedy and momentum was building.

But then Caribe became a pain in the ass to work with. Arum tried to make Rigondeaux vs. Marroquin on the Chavez Jr./Martinez undercard but Caribe sued Top Rank because it was in violation of the co-promotional agreement. Arum was obviously pissed but they were able to work out a deal.

Arum got him another co-feature against Poonsawat Kraetingdanggum on the Donaire/Arce card to build the Donaire/Rigo fight. Unfortunately Poonsawat failed the pre-fight blood test and it was called off. Then the Donaire fight was being negotiated and Caribe was making things real difficult as usual. You can see the article about Arum talking about how Rigo needs to re-evaluate the people "he has in his ear". They worked out a deal and Rigo made $750K.

Arum then tried to get him a fight against Chris Avalos in Macau on a Zou Schiming undercard. Caribe said no because they felt Rigo should be making more than Schming. So once again they pissed off Arum so what does he do? He pays them back and says "OK, you want to headline, I'll give you a headline". So he talked HBO into getting him a headliner in Atlantic City on the same night as Judah/Malignaggi. The fight severely flopped and Rigo was the victim of Arum shoving it up Caribe's asses.

After that Rigo just fought out his contract and became a Caribe only fighter. Gary Hyde worked to get him fights in Japan but they turned their nose up at it because "a champion of his status shouldn't have to travel to Japan." Hyde also worked out deals with Roc Nation and Frank Warren but Caribe rejected because they didn't like the terms for them.

I'm a Super Rigo fan but this is all on him and his team. I can't feel sorry for them being delusional, difficult to work with and burning every bridge in the industry.
Great recap, thx for that....Looks like if Rigo was solely with Arum or Haymon he would be much bigger than he is now...I mean, look at Rios for god sakes and how much exposure he continues to get, even after an embarrassing loss to Manny, just because he's with TR...

If Rigo was solely with TR we would probably get a Rigo-Loma trilogy... Now that fight will probably never happen...

Now not only is he not recognized as the rightful champion, HBO ****s on him every chance they get for some unknown reason... I guess that's what you get for being a 2X Olympic Gold medalist with dazzling speed and skills, and one of the premiere athletes in all of sports... you get to be the butt of a joke on HBO, disrespected and unrecognized....Can you imagine such an elite athlete in the NFL or NBA getting this type of treatment...

Look at how boxing rolled out the red carpet for Floyd Mayweather, yet for Rigo, who is just as impressive an athlete, no one but the most hardcore boxing fans even know his name....

The whole thing is very demoralizing for the sport as a whole. What type of message does it send when some scumbag manager has the power to keep an athlete back from getting his dues?

Nice breakdown of all the bs.

I can't hate on Rigo over this doe. I'm always gonna lean towards being pro-boxer, anti-everyone except the boxer way. I mean its f#cked up how boxing is today. You used to just need to be a good boxer. Now you gotta wear all kinds of hats & trust all sorts of people as a boxer.

Its no wonder this is the era of inactivity & elite boxers losing years of their career over things written on a piece of paper. Louis lost years of his career due to a f#cking world war. Ali lost years of his career due to his beliefs about a war. Tyson lost years of his career due to having a IRS laywer representing him in a **** trial. Ward, Chavez Jr, Mikey Garcia, Rigo & others have lost years of their career cuz they signed ****ty boxing deals.

rigo wouldve been undisputed by now if it wasnt for the fighters AND networks against him

Lomachenko ****ing loss. Ward is black, and before you say something about one of his parent being white, he is trained and has learned his skills from the black community and he's from Oakland. Gonzalez isn't white and no Gonzalez isn't as skilled a Rigo as El Gallo already beat his ***** ass.

It's a shame that none of the supposed best guys in the division are willing to fight him, but I agree with the above posters that Rigo/his team has brought a lot of this on himself.

Rigo is done and has nobody to blame but himself, he stayed with the caribe leeches against reason and logic, those "promoters" don't even have a webpage. He'll fight for peanuts if he ever fights again, none of the belt holders or top fighters would fight him as he doesn't have a belt and is a very high risk for no reward. Bye bye Rigo, Japan is calling, there you may still get a couple of fights a year.

The WBO needs that belt so that they can offer it to a Top Rank fighter. Sorry Rigo.

He's a moron for staying with Caribe.

It was sickening to see idiots blaming Gary Hyde when Hyde did everything imaginable to get Rigo deals, only to have Caribe repeatedly **** it up. Honestly, Rigo deserves everything he gets at this point.

This is Eddy Marin, one of the guys who runs Caribe:

Besides advertising pornograhic sites, Marin had a history of sending spams touting Viagra and other drugs without prescriptions, as well as loans and cheap computer software.

Marin also had a criminal rap sheet. He was convicted in 1990 for ******* trafficking and again in 1999 for money laundering.
In 2013, Marin "pleaded guilty to federal charges, admitting he helped to hide an enormous 12.08-carat yellow diamond that Ponzi fraudster Scott Rothstein's wife Kim wanted to keep from being seized by federal authorities."

This is who Rigo chose to manage his career. I have zero sympathy for him.
