If they honestly only expected to do 150,000 buys they would have put it on regular HBO were they could have gotten about a million views.

Golovkin's hardcore nuthuggers are trying to make him a bigger star than he really is. People want to see these smaller guys move up to fight him but no one is asking him to go up and fight these bigger guys despite the fact that no one in his division has been to go a full 12 rounds with him.

People will not tune in to see a guy knock out guy he is expected to beat.
Right cause 150,000 x$60 is the same as 1 million views x $0
There's a reason it went on PPV. HBO doesn't have the budget to pay $4 million in purses for one night.

If you put it on regular HBO that means 0 profit? Are you an idiot? HBO gets money from it subscribers. PPV is a different form of generating a profit. Using your reasoning, if it got one buy on PPV that would be greater than putting on regular HBO.

Trust me when I say this: Golovkins next fight will not be on PPV unless it is Cotto, Canelo, or Ward.

Yeah cos I'm such a huge Ward fan

When you hear the term "haterz" repeatedly, you know you're going to hear some emotional butthurt fanboy rant.

Again WARD's road to stardom has been WAY MORE DIFFICULT than GGG's streak of kos, BRO! Thats is not disputable, its self-explanatory
You're confusing quality of opposition with road to stardom. They're completely different things. Ward is an American Olympic medal winner, was a highly ranked SMW and was involved in a Super 6, which made his career. Before the super 6, he was no better than Golovkin.

If there was a MW version of the Super 6, and GGG beat Cotto/Canelo/Lee/Quillin/Lemieux, his popularity would be taking a big dump on Ward's right now.

You can't possibly compare being an American to being from Kazakhstan. Ward stayed in his backyard and fought good competition. Golovkin came from a corrupt nation, moved to germany, had to deal with corrupt promoter (who protected Felix from him), then moved to the US.

In order to generate the same amount of money as Ward got for fighting absolute garbage (Smith), Golovkin fought a current title holder on PPV. Ward has been served his career on a silver platter, Golovkin had to work for every damn thing he earned.

While you're pulling those numbers out of your ass, anything else up there?

Loeffler is on the record saying he hopes for 200k buys.
A Sports Illustrated article published before the fight pegs the estimate at 150k-200k.

This story originally appeared in the October 19, 2015, issue of Sports Illustrated. To subscribe to the magazine click here. This story was also published prior to Golovkin's defeat of David Lemieux at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 17.

The hope is that a strong showing (150,000 buys is considered good; anything over 200,000 is a smash)

Well it actually made a lot of sense, despite the whole 'haters' thing.

Ward was in a huge Nike commercial. so why are people *****ing about GGG getting a small thing on the Apple one?

Are they? Who? Hadn't noticed and really don't care.

How does that change his boxing career being awful and his PPV being a flop?

Is GGGs boxing career awful? Come on now.

I don't know if it was a flop and really don't care. I'm not getting paid for his work.

But people have been *****ing about Ward in contrast to GGG. When people, incl. Ward, realize he's the B side, I'm sure they can hatch something together.

But you care about Apple and Nike commercials? Ok then....

You were flapping your gums about Golovkin being "the man" and some kind of superstar that Ward had to bow to. Then he barely breaks 100k buys ans suddenly you "don't care" about it

                      1. Ward appeared on a very popular Nike commercial in 2013.
                      2. 19 year old GGG fought @ Welterweight, 17 year old Ward was a MW. In the 2004 Olympics, 20 year old Ward fought at LHW. Same Olympics, 22 year old Golovkin fought at Middleweight. There's been a big size difference going back to their teenage years. Golovkin was 165 at 30 day weigh in, while Ward was not even trying to make 168 anymore.
                      3. Quillin, like many Haymon fighters, talk out of the smokescreen because they know they're protected, that's why him and Jacobs said they'll fight Golovkin. Wont see Quillin fight anyone of note in near future.
                      4. Cotto/Canelo wont fight Golovkin until May 2017
                      5. Says Cotto/Canelo are A-side. You don't become a PPV star until you beat a PPV star.
                      6. Ward still gets credit as P4P even though he fought no one of note for 3 years, Golovkin fought much tougher opposition in the same time frame.
                      7. Lemieux/GGG was not disastrous they have very smart people who analyzed the break even numbers. Event performed not as well as expected due to Cubs/Mets, College football and falling between Manny/Floyd & Canelo/Cotto - "I got enough money for one of these PPVs, I'll get the Canelo/Cotto fight and catch GGG/Lemieux on replay". Calls it a "successful experiment".
                      8. Rohan Murdock was gonna get 250k for getting beat by Ward.
                      9. Dan Goossen did an excellent job promoting Ward, he mentions that during Super Six Ward was the only one who didn't have to leave his country and barely left his home town.
                      10. GGG had a much tougher road to stardom than Ward
                      11. Says that GGG and K2 have made lots of concessions and even paid the opponents out of pocket to get them into the ring, and during that process had to get fights. So they said that:
                      12. In order to get the same amount as Andre Ward got for an unranked bum who was coming off 2 losses (Paul Smith), Golovkin had to goto PPV and fight a title holder
                      13. Lee will fight GGG in 2016. May be a PPV.
                      14. GGG wont fight 4 times a year, thinks it may be 3 times.
                      15. Team ggg insists upon a catch weight of 164 for a Ward fight, killing any chance of the fight happening
                      16. LeMew/ggg PPV is a financial flop
                      17. ggg at almost 34 has yet to fight an A list opponent and has no concrete plans to do so
