I'll use your response - "If GGG can draw, he would draw" lol....

Ward has been inactive. He came back to fight Rodriguez with barely any promotion or fanfare but pulled one of the highest HBO ratings that year. 1.2 against Rodriguez and 1.3 against Dawson have been his last two HBO fights.

Golovkin has started to pull in 1.3/1.4 type ratings. There's no need to cook the books, he's never done a 1.6.

Is that really "crapping on" Ward in the ratings? Not quite. Then when you factor in the different levels and type of hype they receive, it actually makes the numbers virtually dead even.

Plus now Golovkin has disproved your theory of him being a PPV superstar and we have what should be a 50/50 fight.
Except those were Ward's ratings 3 years ago. What relevance does that have today?

Sure, no one thinks to watch boxing on BET.. but doesn't that tell you a lot by itself? The same network that thought Golovkin deserved a shot on their PPV didn't even think Ward was worth to appear on its regular broadcast.

Trying to say that Ward/GGG is 50/50 is laughable. Ward was gifted a golden career with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he's pissing his career away with his diva antics, while Golovkin was given a pile of turds and he's slowly turning it into gold.

It's the only available data to compare. Golovkin hasn't exactly been blowing Ward's ratings out of the water in those 3 years like LacedUp would have you believe.

Ward seems to be a bit of a black sheep at the moment. They want to keep him as far away from Golden Goose Golovkin as possible to protect that hype train. Do you really think HBO would reject Golovkin-Paul Smith? It would be consistent with Golovkin's overall level of opponent.

I wasn't clear - Ward was a highly ranked fighter who got into Super 6 and made himself a career out of it.

I'm not demeaning his opposition in the slightest - he fought tough fighters. But these fighters were contractually obligated to fight him in the Super 6. Virtually everyone else has to jump through hoops to secure a match with big names, from waiting for months to make up their minds,to ducks, to dealing with CW demands.

That is what I mean he was 'gifted a career'. Like I said before, imagine if Golovkin was contracted to fight all the top MWs in 2013. Ward won the f'n lottery, and all he did since Super 6 is piss his career down the drain.

... no it's not. The most recent available data has Ward fighting on a non-boxing channel and getting 300k viewers.

We're not gonna compare Ward's ratings from 3 years ago to another fighter's this year. That's ridiculous. What are you gonna do next, say that Joe Frazier's ratings from 70 years ago are better than Rohan's Murdock in 2015?

That's only comparable if Golovkin fights on BET or some similar channel.

The HBO data is there and as I said, GGG hasn't exactly blown Ward out of the water and with his PPV flopping, he's not really in any position to say he's a "clear A-side".

By that definition the only way to compare Ward's popularity against Floyd's is to take Ward's HBO numbers from 3 years and Floyd's numbers pre-PPV. It's ridiculous.

Fighting on BET is telling in itself. If you disagree, you're deluding yourself worse than Ward is.

It's a two way street. HBO decided to pay Ward something like $2m to face Rodriguez.

You lost me - what does HBO/Rodriguez purse from 2 years ago have to do with what you bolded?

Well of course it had an effect. But the time difference was obviously the main factor.

Ward did 1.029 vs Rodriguez, not 1.2. And no that's not the same.

Facts right now are that Ward bombed heavily on BET. Despite it being on BET, they still felt it bombed badly!

I never said he was a PPV superstar But he's a much bigger draw than Ward is right now.
