The lower weight clases are seperated by 4 or 5 lbs. & that much makes a huge difference. By your logic, a fighter like Juan Manuel Marquez shoud be able to challenge JLC or Diego Corrales & win at 135 lbs. right? I don't think so & he'd get KO'ed by a fighter like Juan Diaz who isn't as skilled but is MUCH stronger.Comment

Truth is Corrales outweighed Castillo when the stepped into the ring.
Some of you are commenting that the extra 2 lbs that Castillo weighed during the weigh-in knocked Corrales clean out.
This isn't the case.
The 2 lbs were supposed to make more of a case during the course of the fight in terms of Castillo not being as weight depleted. Just because he didn't have to sweat all the way down to 135.
Castillo was a little fresher but I think it was due to JLC not bouncing from fight to fight 3 times consec..
JLC also started extremely fast, def something he's not known for, because I believe he knew that he wouldn't have it in him for the long haul of the fight.
Corrales even said that he noticed JLC was winded by the 4th and had he not got caught the outcome would have been different.Comment

I agree with part of what you say though. Corrales put on water weight & that wasn't muscle at all. JLC wasn't weight drained & had he made weight it would've been a level playing field. He was fresher, stronger, & came out of the gate alot faster. Those same punches he was nailing Corrales with in the first fight didn't have the visible damage or impact like they did in the second fight. The punches JLC landed in the second fight were heavier & did more damage early.Originally posted by GoldenboyprmTruth is Corrales outweighed Castillo when the stepped into the ring.

I am just saying that the fighter that accept the challenge of another fighter knowing that they did not meet the weight shouldnt matter for a few pounds, but of course we know that in the boxing world it does (cause of the rules) , but it really makes no diff, come fight night, either fighter can pack on 1-20lbs over night
what I am saying is that I dont think JLC can be consider a cheater for having this happen to him, hell all fighters cheat, thats why over night the pack on them lbs, what I was origianlly trying to say is that if a fighter is a true champion, he should be able to overcome another fighter out weighting him by a few or a good 10 lbs
take for example andrew lewis vs antonio margarito, andrew lewis on fight night was 9 lbs heavier and Margarito still Ko'd himLast edited by bigdlb12; 04-13-2006, 05:37 PM.Comment

JLC is rated so high because he is that damn good as simple as that.
He has beaten top opposition one after another. And when he KTFOd chico it wasnt the weight, it was his revised game plan that allowed him to drop chico like a sac of potatos.
Instead of trying to bully through Corrales like he did in the first and get in trouble a lot of time, he took the distance, he stuck his jab in Corrales face and he popped him with straight rights.
You simply cant sit there and talk about how shameful it is to be 2.5 lbs over the weight limit, and ignore Corrales spit out the moutpiece trick to buy a bunch of time.
If you cant see why Castillo is so high on lb for lb ratings, then u simply dont know enough about boxing.Comment
