if you want to see ward - golovkin
      ward - kovalev
alvarez vs - cotto and the like, you've got to pay for them.

the fights are too expensive otherwise. you can get regular HBO money fighting cans. why fight a top fighter for the same dollar amount?

networks have shot themselves in teh foot by overpaying their stars to fight in garbage fights. they really don't promote or sell fights any more. they sell stars, and they promote stars.

HBO paid andre ward two million dollars to fight fringe contender edwin rodriguez. you think he's going to take two million dollars to fight the best puncher north of 160 lbs when he got two million to fight edwin rodiguez?

rodriguez got around million dollars to fight ward, IIRC. should sergey kovalev, one of the sport's very best, take the same amount to fight andre ward that he took to mohameddi? how about kovalev making the same amount edwin rodriguez took to fight ward? is it realistic to expect a top fighter like kovalev to take "b side money?"

      of course it isn't.

the system is broken. there's really no middle class in boxing. PBC is trying to get more fights on TV, but they're in bad slots, and most of them suck. sometimes they catch lightning in a bottle, btu that's boxing.

if you want to see ward - kovalev, get used to the idea of paying $70 for it.

i was fine with golovkin - lemieux, as long as it is building toward golovkin - alvarez/cotto, or golovkin - ward. it had a solid undercard, and i enjoyed the fight.

if it's just a string of small time PPV for golovkin, i'll be displeased.

        1. all ppv figures released are just US numbers.

        2. golovkin is not russian.

I'm ok with gimmicky mismatches bombing but Canelo Cotto is boxing at it's best. I'm not even a fan of either guy but that fight doing poorly would be a very bad thing. It has "event" written all over it.

Cotto vs Canelo will likely be the last Boxing PPV I purchase for a very very long time so I'm rooting for that to do great! After that I think I'm done with Boxing PPV Events until something comes along that is really truly worth it.

Boring runners and clinchers should never be on PPVs. Its waste of time and money.

                    I agree.

Other than Canelo and Cotto there arent any PPV fighters left, maybe Pac, but even with them its pushing it.

Hopefully with GGG's massive flop promoters realize they cant just put anything out there and PPV goes away

And why? Because they're making people pay to watch fights....

More people would be into boxing if the big names and fights weren't costing a lot of money to watch. The price of a PPV is a lot of money for some people and buy making it PPV then you're alienating a lot of potential boxing fans.

If the big fights were on normal TV like other sports big events, more people would be interested in Boxing and then there's plenty of other revenue streams such as advertising.

in some ways, PBC has the right format for todays world, just usually not the right events or fighters to make it have a huge impact.
