Comments Thread For: GGG's Promoter: Anything Over 200K Buys is a Success

Being that this weekend's bout against IBF middleweight titlist, David Lemieux, is Gennady Golovkin's first foray into the pay-per-view realm, the decision was made to price this as affordably as possible.

A retail price of $49.95 was set( plus the usual $10 fee for the HD broadcast) for this card which takes place at the Madison Square Garden on Saturday night on HBO Pay-Per-View.

very low standards. this guys is suppose to be HBO's new cash cow. he does'nt deserve 50-50 with Ward. whenever he stops ducking is when he wants to make some real money. he is'nt fighting cotto nor alvared they are to small and the winner wants a retired mayweather jr

I agree. 200k is a W. 300-350k puts him on par with future PPV giants Oscar, Floyd & Manny on their first dip into PPV. Anything better than 350k would be a fantastic outcome for K2 & GGG.

200k isn't low standard. Its realistic. And if they double that number its a huge outcome for a 1st PPV fight.

I think with his popularity right now & Ward's lack of popularity after his lack of fighting over the last 4 years I think 50/50 makes sense & Ward does to last I heard. If Ward is cool with it no one else should have a problem. Once GGG gots some PPV buys & Ward is still a PPV ****** I think its fair to say GGG deserves more than 50/50.

No clue where this fight will land just too hard to predict because it's GGG's first PPV. But I do agree 200K buys seems like a good benchmark for success. The biggest reason is GGG, Lemieux ect are all not receiving crazy fight purses like say a Mayweather. Therefore the amount of PPV sales needed for HBO to pull a profit is drastically less.

The two main events are EASILY worth the price.
