They flat-out said it wasn't "worth the risk", and that's a literal quote from Genady's manager last week. If you have faith in your guy, how does 'risk' slip out of your mouth. Genady's place in this biz is about making money and they've done a great job at suckering people into believing in his aura of invincibility. There is no interest in challenging him.

Where do fans get this idea that fights are risk-free? It's still a sport where you're punching a guy in the head.
Of course boxing is about making money. Again, it's a sport where you're punching a guy in the head. If you're not making money then why even bother at it?

It doesn't matter of Ward was a huge draw they stil, would have found an excuse not to make the fight or request particular advantages
Again what is wrong with your critical thinking skills people?? It makes me wonder if a lot of you guys are fighters after all, who have been hit a few too many times in the gym.
This is the same reason why people don't want to fight Rigondeaux. It has nothing to do with "challenging yourself," it's taking the reward and dividing it by the risk and looking at the number that comes out. If the number is in the low decimals, better believe fighters aren't going to risk their health for peanuts just so fans can talk about how great they are for being "challenged."
Lest anyone forgets, Nonito Donaire "challenged" himself and got nothing but **** from these ungrateful fans.

Some fighters actually value legacy over money !
In years to come will we be debating their purses or their fights that's all I want to know ..

Kovalev has an HBO-exclusive deal. Guess why? They're paying him good money. He could have stayed a free agent, negotiated fight-to-fight, and would be available to fight Stevenson on NBC or whatever. But HBO is paying the bills.
Oh yeah and don't for a second think he didn't get paid against Hopkins either.
