Just look at the splits for these fights, they were more about legacy than money considering the purse splits IMO.

    Jones jr vs James Toney

    Cotto vs Martinez

    Kovalev vs Hopkins
yeah, martinez ducked golovkin in order to fight cotto for the legacy. good one

Of course it was obvious Ward was more risky than Chavez, but was it team GGG's fault that Ward was not a draw because of his inactivity. We all got to stay off the "what and if" world. The reality was Chavez was small risk big money, Ward big risk, no money and remember the guy wasn't available then.

Reality now, GGG the A-side, Ward either put up or shut up!

Sorry but no matter the $ that fight would have done nothing for his legacy ..This is the negative to the business side of boxing ..I mean what weight class was Chavez Jr even in the guy can't make weight and has a lazy work ethic ..The only reason it oils have made money is because of his last name .

That whole not a draw thing is an excuse to avoid him plain and simple !

Same here. Ward doesn't bring money, he'd just be another opponent to the majority of the buying public.

Go see what Martinez was paid for that compared to Cotto ..He gave Cotto all the advantages and Martine was the champ!

andre ward was almost forgotten until he attached his name to golovkin's. i don't remember any andre ward fans on boxingscene before that, even when he was actually involved in big fights

Which of these two do you think is generating the hype?

They're going in different directions anyway. Ward's last fight was at 172, last I checked the middleweight division was the other way.

i have seen it. but if he's all about the glory then why did he duck golovkin in favour of a smaller, older fighter? he thought cotto was done

not to mention that he'd demand a bigger chunk of the purse than lemieux, nor does he bring a foreign ppv market to the table. golovkin is getting, what, $3m for the lemieux fight if they hit their ppv targets. he'd probably only get a couple more to face ward. he'd likely get more as the b-side against canelo/cotto than he would with ward

More than likely but isn't GGG wanting a crack at Cotto as well ? Are you saying the same thing about Cotto for fighting Canelo ? Is he ducking GGG for a more lucrative fight ?Because if anything Martinez was short changed ..Would,he have gotten close to that purse with GGG at the time since it's all about money ?

he thought cotto was done but evidently he was wrong. cotto has a good win at the weight and a title so he's fair game now. i actually think he'll beat alvarez
