Comments Thread For: Roc Nation: GGG's Team Turned Down Ward in 36 Minutes
Collapse

Jay-Z made contractural commitments to Ward, for a certain number of fights, with certain minimums. The fact that Ward cant generate enough revenue to cover his events without Roc taking a loss is simply tough luck for Jay-Z. One way or the other, he's writing a check. Unless of course he can convince another fighter who actually brings in revenue to do a 50-50 split. Good luck finding a chump ****** enough to take that offer....Ward's fee is generally believed to be $2m; whether Roc Nation pays that to him on the front end or the back end is up to the promoter of the event.
Jay-Z is pretty much a billionaire, but he's still a businessman, first. Any successful businessman understands that you succeed when businesses are self-sustaining. To assume that Jay-Z is supposed to just shell out money is silly.

No he is actually going to 175 against a bigger threat..Kovalev is the target...Comment

10 pages of his fans in full defense mode tells a different story. Since you know he can't beat Ward in the ring, you guys pray on Ward's downfall because it gives you a sense of victory outside the ring. You want to convince yourselves that Ward doesn't exist but as the ring and Lampley's pound for pound Rankings show, he's back and the new era will begin shortly.
Its like the kid that runs scared of the bully and gain a sense of relief when he gets suspended from school, or gets a F on his match quiz.Comment

You're the type to refer to your favorite sports team as "we"
Keep living vicariously through fighters, you sad sack of ****.
The rest of will be watching fights.Comment

Unless his shoulder gives out in one of those 3 tuneups. One for each lb above 172, t4p Ward.
Kovalev is not the target, it's who HBO will make him fight if he's to be back on the network. But they're much smarter than Team Ward, and know that fight won't be built up on tuneups.Comment

Lol. The HBO network cheerleader talking about "we"? Haha.
You care more about ratings and purse splits than the fights themselves. Ward negotiations are a hotter topic than this PPV event.
You're the type that cheers when HBO releases positive ratings and PBC releases negative ratings.Comment

I can't speak for everyone here, but as a long time fan of Gennady I can say that I do want the Ward fight to happen AFTER the Lemieux fight obviously and after he does or does not get a shot at the WBC belt. Unifying titles is important to me as a boxing fan. It creates clarity in a division. There is nothing worse for me than having 4 to 6 different "champions" in the same division. It's absolutely ******ed and one of the worst things to happen to the sport I love. So anytime there is a chance at unifying all the belts, which very few are able to accomplish these days usually because of politics, I'm all for it and that should be the goal of the best fighters. Golovkin has said over and over and over his goal is to unify, so let him do that. I have no idea what the rush is for people being that he's never fought above 160 in his career and since he's so close to finally accomplishing his goal after years of being denied the opportunity from other title holders. On top of all this, a Golovkin vs Ward fight would be wo much bigger a year down the road versus right now, when GGG is just now having his first PPV and Ward is coming off of a tuneup on BET. Couple more fights for each guy, assuming they win of course, makes it a huge event, not only for the boxing world but financially for each fighter.10 pages of his fans in full defense mode tells a different story. If it's a no win fight, why disparage him for not taking it like you've been trying to do? New era shortly begin lol. Dude this Ward bully act you're cheering on is just pathetic: sending bogus offers to unproven guys 1.5 divisions down, threatening lawsuits, schoolyard stuff like "36 minutes, "Lil G" (from Ward's lawyer lol, what a team of clowns), demanding 2m for utter bums, demanding PPV upside for an undercard, turning down fringe contenders HBO proposes...Comment

See I can respect this. I don't mind him unifying I just have my doubts on Cotto and Canelo's willingness to fight him. We all know the history of the WBC.Comment
