Boxers just owe us effort and entertainment. If they go through a war and get hurt, oh well, it's a shame but it's part of the game.

Like in racing, i don't want them to crash and die but id rather the guy go for the improbable dangerous pass than cruise to 2nd place finish.

When fans get to into it and think about longevity, health, money, records, etc its too involved for me. Let the people with an actual stake in a boxer worry about protecting their investment. I'll concern myself with watch boxer beat boxer and keep it moving.

No they don't. The contract is pretty simple: you hand over your money in exchange for a boxing match. There is no guarantee that the match-up will be exciting. You are not handing over your money in exchange for someone being beaten to death; that would be illegal.

Na, most boxers had no other choice. They used their aggression and fighting ability to get out of a poor life. Others were born into due to their family and that was all they were made to do as children. Nobody really chooses to be a boxer if they have skills to be something else more profitable. That is very rare if a boxer actually chose boxing out of a bunch of other good options that pay the same or more. If I had no choice, nothing going for me, I would love to be a boxer. If I can play baseball, basketball, football over getting into pro boxing I would do the other 3.

Boxers don't owe anybody there lives. But fans don't owe boxers anything either. If a fighter quits, I would never blame him. But fighters have to understand that if they quit they are probably going to lose some fans. Fighters should also understand that if they fight in a overly defensive safety first style that people might not want to watch them fight.

A lot of times, boxing is all they know. So it's their way of putting food on the table. I don't think they should risk their lives for it. And for the people that are saying "You call that fight of the century?" Floyd nor Pac said their fight was going to be fight of the century. The fans and the promoters did. Hell, how the **** did anyone think that was going to be the fight of the century when Matthysse vs Provoknikov was fighting a month before? How the **** did people think it was supposed to be fight of the century when the Gatti vs Ward trilogy happened within the century? Or Hagler vs Hearns? Did people really think Mayweather vs Pacquiao was going to exceed that in terms of excitement? I never thought this fight was going to be the fight of the century in terms of excitement. I thought it was going to be fight of the century in terms of demands. I know the risk every time I spend money for a PPV. If it turns out to be a good fight, then great. If it turns out to be a ****ter, then my wallet took an L. Besides, I usually have a lot of my buddies over, they pitch in, we end up spending 10 dollars each and we have a good time talking about boxing. Whether the fight is good or not, we having a good time. But the crazy thing is, I see people complaining about a boring fight when they are watching free boxing. So some people just don't give a ****. They just want to see blood, whether they are paying or not.

Boxing isn't the only profession where one might be called on to give their lives. When these guys get in the ring they know what they doing and understand what they're risking. And if they lace up those gloves they are doing so voluntarily, our wishes are only important insofar as they make their money off of us. But I ain't mad at a fighter for boxing instead of using his head like a battering ram.

As romantic as it may sound, these men are not gladiators, they're paid employees that happen to have a very risky job not unlike football players, commercial fisherman, loggers, police officers, firefighters, bicycle messengers, miners etc.

But like any employee you can either really apply yourself and get ahead or you can just kind of hang around and have an okay career.

Fuck yea they do! They get rich off us. Soldiers out there go risk their lives for a ton less so yea I expect some form of entertainment when they fight. Especially after paying $60 dollars plus for a damn PPV they like to charge us for.
