According to WBO, Abraham is the champion and defeating him would make Murray the champion. Why should that not take precedence over the RING ratings? The only ratings that really matter are who holds what title and who is the mandatory for that title. As far as I am concerned, no other rating matters.
Even though, in my opinion, the Ring makes mistakes in their rankings I believe they are more in tune with reality then the ridiculousness that comes along with the alphabet ratings.

I also use RING as my standard for rating fighters. BUT... I will always state that I am using RING ratings when creating a post. I won't make a statement regarding a fighters standing in the ratings without including what rating scale I am using. In many cases, it is not difficult to find one sanctioning body or some web site or magazine to support just about any rating someone wants to use to make their point. But posters should always indicate what they are basing their ratings on.

Or is that too much to ask for?

One thing that I NEVER consider when rating a fighter is P4P lists, ANY P4P lists.

PS: I have to say that I agree 100% with your sig. Leonard did not do enough to take the title from Hagler. I remember swearing at my television when the results were announced!

Personally I very rarely do I read the alphabet rankings, and if I do its usually to laugh at them. With that said Ring can make mistakes as well. If you want a major current one look no further then the Super Middleweight division.

How the hell they have Abraham ranked as the number Super Middleweight in the world is beyond me??? I personally believe he is little more then a European domestic level fighter that isn't close to being elite. But that is just my opinion and I have been wrong in the past.

As far as the Hagler-Leonard fight is concerned, when I watched it live on closed circuit I thought that it was close. However, when I watched it on TV it wasn't as close as I thought. Therefore, I gave the fight to Hagler by at least a couple of rounds. And after almost thirty years I still have the same opinion of the fight.
