Boxing is entertaining because in general fighting is dramatic and interesting. Floyd was unique. No one is going to be able to copy exactly how he fought. They dont have the talent.
Hardcore fans appreciated what Floyd could do, even though his fights werent really entertaining. I watched because im a boxing fan, and he was the best. I was always hoping for an upset.
I dont think non-boxing fans were attracted to the sport because of Floyd. But i cant criticise him for the way he fought. He fought smart.

Over the last few years, and then some, there have been very few pay-per-view events that left fans happy and eager watch more.
In the opinion of Merchant, Mayweather's very successful marketing style of picking an opponent who has little chance of victory - building him up - and then dominating him over twelve rounds in a lackluster fight - influenced a lot of other promoters, and fighters, to use the same pay-per-view tactics.

And why should floyd dumb down his talent because other fighters are forced to be brawlers because thats all they can do? When I was in the ring I wished I had floyds defensive prowess as some dudes really hit hard lol. Too many fighters suffer from pugilistic dementia from taking far to many clean hits. And while they have to be fed and cannot wash themselves without help, the very peoplem clamoring for them to stand and take needless punishment don't need help to eat. And most fighters are soon forgotten by the people they tried to satisfy. It's really sad. Most fighters didn't make enough money to be independent and must work a regular job after boxing. So the ones with the mental illness and suffered from cronic concussions are unable to support themselves. So for me being a former boxer I am glad to see floyd retire wealthy and able to enjoy his children. I wish all fighters could retire well off with no limitations. Non fighters like merchant really kill me. I bet if he got hit with a light jab he would retire in that round.
Sugar Ray closed the show as a Welterweight, Hagler did at Middleweight, and Holmes did at Heavyweight, and they were great boxers who always fought to take the man out. They all to this day are intelligent and wealthy. Again I can't disagree with all your accurate points. I'm just adding my 2 cents.
