Man, Merchant is an idiot. But his statements are in line with all the other ridiculous and convoluted comments he's made in the past. He's just a vindictive, grouchy old man who doesn't know one thing obout neutrality.

In the opinion of Merchant, Mayweather's very successful marketing style of picking an opponent who has little chance of victory - building him up - and then dominating him over twelve rounds in a lackluster fight - influenced a lot of other promoters, and fighters, to use the same pay-per-view tactics.

          larry, at it again....

he has stirred again a hornets nest..

floyd's fans won't take this sitting down...and rightly so..

i could easily agree with parts of what larry stated more so about the ppv..

but i will not dwell on the ppv item..

what i could say is that floyd was exciting on his early fights...

and even when floyd fought with health comes first mentality, that's his prerogative and strategy..yes, fans clamor for more action..but they were not the one on top of the ring...floyd was...

floyd have made claims that some believed were true and that others find preposterous..
no need to discuss these in details as these were all well debated out in the open...

floyd retired undefeated with some believing otherwise...

his retirement will bring changes in boxing..for the good of the game..

but what's wrong with boxing is not entirely floyd's fault...

sadly, the system and the powers that be was/were and is/are still standing on shaky grounds..

floyd has his millions...and i would not say he does not deserve the greens,....

he does, really he does...if not for anything else, he had presented a face and era of boxing where much lessons could be learned by all...

What happened with the Berto fight? Floyd's PPV success in the last 3 years was supported by the belief that he would fight Pac.

While Merchant stays salty, obsessed, and full of hate....Floyd is off enjoying the retired life in Bora Bora. Floyd wins again.

You guys are funny. Merchant, while probably being a borderline senile drunk as you say, was knee deep in the boxing scene (pun intended) back when Floyd's dad was busy getting smacked around the ring and Roger was getting dominated by SRL. The guy doesn't like Floyd but so what? Is what he is saying that far from the truth?

Look at the state of boxing now with so many top fighters seemingly fighting guys who don't appear to have a shot in hell of winning, creating their own weight classes to bring smaller fighters up for multi-million dollar paydays. You have Broner who is fighting tonight claiming that he is going to take over the sport now that Floyd is gone, fighting a guy who hasn't fought in like 2 years. Wilder who could be fighting the top guys in the division but instead fights guys not ranked in the top 20. Quillin fights some male stripper, Garcia fights Salka, etc.

I know these aren't PPV fights but the trend is there all the same. Hymen developed the recipe with Floyd and it worked so now he is trying to continue that with the rest of his stable. The issue is that there is no marquee matchup to allow such tactics to work (no more Pac-May). People aren't going to spend $80.00 to watch sparring matches, it just isn't going to happen. If they want people to spend money, they are going to have to put their best guys in with the best comp available.
