It's scary how much negative energy Larry has expended toward Floyd over the years. The fact that Larry would talk slick to a teenaged Mayweather during post fight interviews while in his 60's and still takes potshot after 20yrs says alot about Merchant's character. The hate is visceral and pure. If something tragic were to happen to Floyd, I can envision a slight smirk forming on Merchant's face. 84 years old. Funny thing is, Floyd probably be the one to pay for funeral expenses.

It's always been obvious that Merchant dislikes Mayweather and is extremely biased but him talking like this since he's no longer commentating pretty much confirms it. And saying it's because he's produced "boring" fights is bull****, he's been negative towards Floyd even in his earlier more exciting days where he was putting guys away, he's just never liked the guy.

I know right. Each time a boxer was build up, only to be torn down. Canelo made no excuses, said he just couldn't get to him, he moved too much. But at least he didn't bring up an injured knee, hand, elbow, etc.

Post fight loss is no time to bring up an injury.

Floyd also did this post Castillo 1, but he learned from it. Other fighters who never make any excuses, legit or not, need not try to minimize that it was their choice to step in the ring. Leave it in the ring.

Why do people care what a senile old fart thinks about a guy he clearly has a dislike for?

And this sorta outlook are the people in power in boxing biggest failure. All other sports are like watch this battle of highly competitive athletes decide who's best & people come watch in droves. Boxing is like trying to juggle & do circus tricks to bring people in instead of focusing on the art of boxing, the competitiveness, the talent of highly trained & focused men. There is boring **** happening in non-boxing sports all day. People still watch those sports more often than boxing. Idk how anyone can watch golf or baseball & ever be excited like you'd be during the 1st round of any two elite level top ten fighters they are such boring f#cking sports. Then again in no other sport do the people announcing the sport **** on the sport that pays their bills so openly. Give me 20 Al Bernstein like mfers announcing boxing across all channels & boxing is more popular than its been in decades within 3-5 years. Give me 20 Larry Merchant like mfers announcing boxing across all channels & less people are watching boxing then ever in history within 2-3 years.

Merchant hates Floyd because he didn't bend over and go "anythang fo' u massa. I'll stand in da middle of da ring and trade da punches and taste ma own blood jus fa u ol massa."

He proved that you can take control of your career , retire healthy and that fans will pay to see a winner. Taking punishment isn't cool.

Notice how Merchant does NOT mention Pacquiao vs. Rios, Pacquiao vs. Algieri, Pacquiao vs. Bradley II. Oscar was a cherry-pick, Hatton was a cherry-pick, Mosely was a cherry-pick, Marquez was a cherry-pick, Cotto was a cherry-pick, Canelo was a cherry-pick, they're all cherry-picks when Floyd chose them. But when Manny fought them 1-2 years later, then they suddenly became formidable opponents! Was every fighter that Ali chose a formidable opponent? How about Tyson's opponents? What about Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.? Where's Merchant's criticism of Bob Arum? Does he have any blame in the state of boxing?
