Most feel he beat Martinez (I had it a draw but won't argue against Murray winning). Idon't give that much credit since Sergio was shot but still, giving Martinez hell is more significant than anything Genady has accomplished yet. If he'd sack up and fight Ward I'd at least give him points for having some integrity. Right now, he's an entertainer and nothing more.

I disagree, I thought it was Murray, and actually Lem is a step down. This is GGG's first fight against an actual title holder, that's about it. Murray was a defensively responsible fighter, very accurate and tough to get out of there.

Murray was his first test. Period.

All other opponents were hyped by his own fans, no one else was impressed going in or going out. Also you are confusing fans saying "His best opponent to date" with "first test". That is apples and oranges. Someone's best opponent to date can be a C class fighter, but a first test would be someone who has gained respect by most fans through his performances and is a worthy challenger. That was Martin Murray. Lem is a step down and everyone except GGG fans have been saying Lem is not a good fighter since the fight was just talked about.

Yes and yes, Geale was a unified middleweight champion, but a bum? Murray beat Martinez but was a bum? GGG makes them look like bums, Lemieux will be another bum I guess. GGG is one of the best, people need to recognise.

For the record GGG's first test was former unified champion Daniel Geale and he passed with flying colours.

Geale threw the right hand at GGG and connected and did not have a chance to bring his guard back up because he got KOd in the middle of his punch.

It seems every time Golovkin fights it's stated by his opponent that this is his first tough test and so on, but he continues to make some tough guys look like sparring partners. I actually think Lemieux would not get past Murray, Stevens or Monroe. He is ready made for Gennady, lack of head movement alone and the wide punches is a recipe for disaster for young David. (That and all the crowing how he has looked into GGG's eyes and seen fear, etc)

So the new Cotto, well how much room does he have to talk. Living off old glory won't get you past the MW monster.
                  No, he did not.

Martinez was elite, the question is was he healthy ?

But I agree that Golovkin would likely have beaten that version of Martinez.

I am not gonna disagree with your post, but.....

" GGG is one of the best, people need to recognise ".

Either that, or he needs to prove it !

The onus is not on me, as a fan, to recognise anything.

I agree with you that Golovkin passes the eye test, but that does not prove a thing.
