To Floyd's credit, he worked hard and was able to stay undefeated throughout his career.
Once he made a move to the WW division, he abandoned his fan friendly style and adopted a safety first approach to every fight. His style wasnt popular amongst the majority of fans.
As for his ppv success, I credit it to a few things.
1st - His aura of invincibility. Many people tuned in when facing a perceived threat to see who can put an end to his streak.
2nd. - His role of villian (although I dont think its a roll because he seems like a true douche ) played right into the hands of casuals. It created even more of a demand for those who wanted to see Floyd finally get beaten.
3rd - The fanbase of of high profile opponents. Floyd resorted to piggy backing off the mexican fanbase and fighting on Mexican holidays. His fights with Oscar and Canelo did big numbers due a number of factors. Their popularity and fanbase along with Floyd being undefeated and hated by the masses created a perfect combination for a ppv success.
4th - His fight with Pac. These were 2 of the biggest names of the past 10yrs in the sport. On top of being wildly popular, many believed Pac would be the one to finally dethrone Floyd.
He didnt have a Tyson or Pacquiao type of drawing power where fans tuned in to actually see them fight and destroy their opponents. They tuned hoping to see him lose.
Please do not equate Manny and Tyson's drawing power.
You try very hard to come up with reasons why Floyd sells more than others. With everyone else you chalk it up to drawing power or popularity, rather than analyzing why. Of course you do not dislike any of the others.
Your 4 things apply to every fighter, even the most popular ones.
for example, Tyson had an aura of invincibility, did more with Lennox and Holyfield than he did less popular others (mcNeely the exception). His biggest selling fight came off him biting his opponents ear an absolute disgrace to the sport-yet you do not hold that against him.
I think you are embody exactly what Bieber boy was talking about.Comment

This
Floyd is responsible for driving casual fans away. He has hurt the sport for the long run this is why he was cancer to the sportComment

Your points are contradicted by the fact that Floyd outsells Manny when matched against common opponents and those you say he "piggy backed" have failed to show they can do those numbers without Floyd.
Please do not equate Manny and Tyson's drawing power.

But hey, like Floyd said "whether u love me or hate me I don't care so long as you're buying the Ppv" That's fine, but don't cry about the criticism when you purposely market yourself to be hated.Last edited by Deevel916; 10-01-2015, 01:49 PM.Comment

look dude, you are trying hard but your two weeks in econ 201 and US history 202 are not enough for you to make a coherent argument.
You are trying to make a point but have neither the facts nor intelligence to do so.Comment

He's the worst thing that's ever happened to boxing for sure. What a disgrace. And a roider for the majority of his career too, nice little cherry on top there.Comment

it just goes to show you how many people despised Floyd and tuned in hoping he'd lose. That's not drawing power due to "popularity" like u suggested.
But hey, like Floyd said "whether u love me or hate me I don't care so long as you're buying the Ppv" That's fine, but don't cry about the criticism when you purposely market yourself to be hated.
Floyd is polarizing, which means he has an equal number of fans and detractors. Unpopular means he has no fans. You are correct in that he does get people to buy to see him lose, but to exaggerate that makes no sense. It is a small percentage.
If 50% like you and 50% hate you, you are more popular than someone who 35% like but only 10% hate.
I agree with your point about complaining, but Bieber's point is correct and you in many ways illustrate it.Comment
