This 49-0 debate is just a side show of the pound for pound argument. It is obviously entertaining but so many different opinions.
I don't have the time to do it but it should be easy to put a bit of math into it and get a more accurate result to avoid back and forth arguments that "Chavez' first 40 or so opponents were cab drivers", or that "Mayweather avoided the best".
Maths? How? Go to Boxrec and look up the records of the opponents and work out some kind of math quotient on that record. For example divide the winning record by the losing record would be the most basic and if the losing record is a "0" give that 0 a nominal value of 0.5.
Do this with all fighters in one country. Ah, countries .... they would have to have different values. Compiling 10-0 record in China might not have the same value as 10-0 in mexico or 10-0 in the USA.
This would need a huge database and just the data input would take thousands of hours - but it would put a lot more meaning into a record.
For example, yesterday, after Froch said that GGG wouldn't be in his PfP top 10 the shit hit the fan and everyone was debating whether Frochs resume was as good as Wards (obviously it is better then GGGs at this time) - so how good was it ?
When Froch beat Pascal, Pascal was at 21-0 - so his opponent value was 21 divided by 0.5 = 42
So - Froch-Pascal = 42 - but actually in a complete assessment Pascal would have a nominal Career score based on all his previous fights and this opponents track records) - that's why it is hundreds if not thousands of hours of work.
Pascal +42
Taylor(28-2) +14
Dirrell(18-0) +36
Kessler (42-2) boxer record 21 loss counts as -29
Not sure what to do with losses Maybe take a notional value like 50 and subtract the fighters record at 21 from 50 gives 29 - so this allows for losses against weak opposition to be a bigger negative than losses against elite opposition
Abraham(31-1) +31
Johnson (51-14) +3.7
Ward (24-0) - boxer value 48 - So 50 less 48 = 2 - this loss counts as - 2
Bute (30-0) +60
Mack (31-4) +7.8
Kessler(46-2) +23
Groves (19-0) +38
Groves (19-1) +19
So resume value for Froch during that famous "murderer's row" string of opponents using this moderated version would be 243.5 - now compare that to other fighters etc
Pain in the ass but more accurate than opinions

Floyd's critics will ignore all of this. They just ignore facts when it doesn't suit their argument.

Whilst being tremendous accomplishments, Mayweather's record does not stand up as a like-for-like comparison and neither will Chocolatito's. So please drop the comparison Boxing Scene.
Originally posted by hectari View Post49-0 is a Heavyweight record, and the significance is only for American boxers, its why they only mention Floyd plus you have to retired undefeated isn't Floyd the only American to tie Rocky? Didn't Larry Holmes lose his 49th fight
Chocolatito should be trying to out do guys in his weight class like Ricardo Finito Lopez 51 and 0
