I root for my own but I like other fighters too. Kovaelv Russia, Lucas Argentina, Gamboa Cuba, Mares Mexico, Thurman USA, Linares Venezuela, Frampton Ireland, Loma Ukraine etc.

I see it all the time, mexican fans who can't give PR fighters a fair shake, fans from the USA who can't admit that fighters like Kovalev and Golovkin and Loma are better than fighters in the same division as fighters from the US, Klit fans and brit fans who never show love to US fighters, and then the racist fans who only support black fighters and vica versa, all that is nonsense, and anyone who actually holds their opinions only limit their own scope of the sport and lose out on much that there is to love in this sport.

And don't derail the thread topic, I will only respond to the Margarito comment once: He got caught trying to cheat once. Post prove of even one fight he actually cheated in or get ignored with regards to that topic.

I got more of a slant towards Michigan fighters than US fighters I think. I do think Michigan used to have a above average boxing farm system though with Kronk in Detroit & many solid amateur guys coming from Flint & Grand Rapids. I feel like things have died down a bi, but I'm almost always gonna show more love to a Michigan prospect than a equally skilled prospect from Cali or elsewhere.

I also got a lotta respect for the Cuban amateur system so I'm a fanboy of Cuban fighters almost across the board since the Jorge Luis Gonzales days to the soon to be Marcos Forestal days.

And while I definitely got those self admitted slants towards Michigan & Cuban fighters I can still enjoy fighters from all over.

Well I was born in America and do have a fondness for American fighters, especially the Heavyweights (except Wilder, for now), but if I were to ride with my ethnicity then rooting is kind of tough.

I only have Pacquiao, Nietes, and Donaire. The younger guys coming out of the system seem alright but it could be all flash and no substance because they fight don't constantly test themselves.

The Pagara brothers are the only ones within realistic title contention. Although Eden Sonsona probably has the greatest prospect upset this year against Mexico's Adrien Estrella.

I agree with Golovkin some people clearly do hate others for skin colour perhaps maybe even jealousy that it isn't a black fighter doing what they wish to see that certain fighter doing, I mean bare in mind there are guys on Youtube who are very honest and they tell you why some don't like GGG.

This is just a boxing thing I think race has always been a big issue but its thankfully become less relevant but you unfortunately still have some who hold onto it (both sides white and black), few weeks back I heard someone trying rooting for people based on their skin saying its not in anyway racist , its just odd tbh.
We go back to the 40s all the way to the 80s and I'm certain the white fan base of the sport were easily the most racist but now I think that has changed a good bit a very good bit but that's just my opinion nothing more nothing less.

I like people getting behind their countryman though its always a good sight to see fans travelling around the world because their fighter is that popular but it doesn't fully dictate who I will root for, I'm more targeted towards the guys who are going to fight fan pleasing If I want to watch amateur style I'll watch the Olympics that and I'm not really going to get behind a guy who is going to act over privileged good example being Ward ever since he started hanging around with Floyd he's been trying to act like him to sell his fights the only thing is nobody cares nobody is tuning in he might be talked about but people aren't watching.

The dumbest fans in boxing are the ones that prefer one style of fighting and denigrate any and all fighters that don't adhere to their strict preference of boxing style.

This describes 95% of this forum.

I root for American fighters, but I appreciate fighters from all across the world. Just like I root for the Chicago Bears, Cubs, Bulls, Blackhawks, and Fire, but I can appreciate great teams and great athletes on other teams and other cities. But it doesn't mean that I'm going to root for them.

Sports are entertaining to me due to these rivalries between cities and countries. There's a reason why all individual sports (golf, tennis, boxing, MMA) list the participant's county of birth.

I dislike runners and clinchers no matter where they come from. I can tolerate runners, but not excessive clinchers. If the fighter comes from my country or from the same race is both (runner/clincher), then I won't mind other fans disliking him. I won't defend him like he's my girlfriend.

Unlike idiots in these forums who force you to love them and hate those with entertaining styles just because their hero happens to be a boring fighter. It's so stooopid. See the huge difference?

martin murray was a huge mw (bigger than ggg), stevens use to fight at smw (dangerous.)

I can't disagree with most of this tbh. i didn't explain my point very well at all.

For me to call a boxer a warrior i want to see them up against it, odds against them in foreign territory (not relevant here but you get my point. Hostile territory) And having to dig deep.

I haven't seen these things from golovkin yet. I'm not saying he can't be one just that he hasn't had the opportunity to prove it.

I think some of you Golovkin fans go well over board when he still has things to prove.
