Ward fans: what would be the game plan vs kovalev?

Kovalev has the height ,reach and the power
Fights tall and has quick hands. Good foot speed.
Is in tremendous shape and has a good cornerman.

He has a jab and Very good 1-2 ,a good chin and heart and toughness.

Whats the game plan for team ward who has little to no power at 175 and good speed but not great,A solid chin
And a solid corner.

Ward has the superior handspeed in terms of single shots, so staying away from Kovs right hand, throwing out his jab and then clinching up close will spoil Kovs work rate and ability. Kov likes to wear his opponents down and hurt them, Ward can neglect that by smothering Kovs punches and working dirty.

It's basically what Ward always does and will help him score a close win with the judges.

I see kovalev letting his hands go. Jdj will come up with a good plan to keep ward outside ..kovalev has long legs and long arms ,i see ward getting beat up and outworked from the outside.

That's actually a really good matchup. Beterbiev lunges forward throwing like a light heavy porter but doesn't smother his own work and has legit power. Hard to outbox because he's so sloppy and on you. You need him to respect your power to stop him lunging in but Ward might not have anything at that weight to scare him.

At the same time he's really raw and all Ward's experience and "roughhouse tactics" work in his favour.

so he has to cheat nonstop? why is this seen as a legit answer? why when this actually happens in fights do people say its a great dominating performance?

I'm not condoning or condemning what he does. I'm just telling it how it is. That's how Ward would win.

LOL, right. He'll try to clinch and tie Kovalev up so that he can rabbit punch him on the inside. That will work once or twice until Kovalev flings him across the ring.

Once Kovalev lands that first flush right to the stomach, Ward will start back peddling and be in defensive mode the entire time, going for the clinch at every opportunity. Kovalev closes the distance and lays him out cold with a straight right in the 4th round.

Ward is too big to return to 168 and has a tough reality in front of him.

But Mayweather only started using this strategy in the later part of his career. Ward has been doing this his whole boxing career, and apparently in the amateurs and Olympics according to you guys here. There's really no excuse for that, a prime Mayweather didn't resort to those tactics and was a superior inside fighter than Ward has ever been.

Ward is more of a genius than Mayweather when it comes to the inside game, he virtually does not get touch in close quarters and is defensively responsible while constantly working in the space of his opponent. Mayweather is still one of the best in close quarters though, I just see Ward as slightly better technically inside close quarters.

No, that video he posted was put up on YT by someone claiming it proved that Kovalev had been KO'd as an amateur.

It doesn't prove that at all.

Kovalev was beaten by Atoev, no dispute about that. But was he KO'd? And is that that actually him in the vid?
