Comments Thread For: Barrera Angles For Beterbiev Clash in the United States

Even as progress is made between promoters Yvon Michel and Kathy Duva in getting their fighters in the ring, something comes along to put their relationship right back at square one.

The two sides managed to work out a deal for Eleider Alvarez and Isaac Chilemba to meet in November, with the winner to be named the mandatory challenger for World light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson. The fight was initally packaged as a light heavyweight doubleheader, to be paired up with a showdown between unbeaten contender Artur Beterbiev (Michel's GYM Promotions) and Sullivan Barrera (Duva's Main Events).

The winner of that fight would be come next in line for a crack at undefeated unified titlist Sergey Kovalev. However, getting the fight has proven difficult and perhaps even more so even in the event it goes to the currently scheduled October 5 purse bid hearing.

No matter the purse bid result, Barrera is limited in where he can fight doing to his current immigration status, dating back to when he arrived to the United States from his native Cuba. [Click Here To Read More]

Kovalev can't fight off HBO, and this dude can't fight in Canada, and their promoter can't win a purse bid but wants to dictate terms to other promoters?

If these guys had a better promoter we would have had these fights already. If these guys fight on PBC they will get their highest paydays.

    1 NOT RATED
    2 Artur Beterbiev Russian Federation
    3 Bernard Hopkins United States
    4 Erik Skoglund Sweden
    5 Andrzej Fonfara Poland
    6 Sean Monaghan United States
    7 Jean Pascal Canada
    8 Sullivan Barrera United States
    9 Eleider Alvarez Canada
    10 Nadjib Mohammedi France
    11 Yuniesky Gonzalez Cuba
    12 Edwin Rodriguez United States

    13 Igor Mikhalkin Russian Federation
    14 Karo Murat Germany
15 Thomas Williams Jr. United States

If he can't make it then does Gonzalez or Rodriguez get next?

Then tell your promoter to put money up so she wins the purse bid. Oh she won't because she's duva the dyke. Pee will still blame haymon because duva is incompetent and believe her when she runs to the media crying saying beterbiev is ducking Barrera

Make this fight in NYC. Beterbiev should be able to draw some Russian fans out in NYC.

Beterbiev just fought in Chicago, he's not headlining in Canada. Unless they want to avoid what would the toughest fight of his career, there's no reason to insist this fight would be in Canada.

As far as Duva trying to win the purse bid - she's not the one robbing a hedge fund for the sole purpose of overpaying fighters in order run legit promoters out of the business.

Duva's going to buy her guy as much time as possible with the purse-bid. If GYM/Haymon insist on going this route only to get Barrera kicked out, then they've wasted Beterbiev's time/career in the process.

I wouldn't be suprised if this dude works for main events. In his eyes duva can do no wrong

Remember when Haymon tried to drag out talks with Stevenson/Hopkins in order to get Hopkins stripped of the IBF title? You probably thought that was pretty cool huh?

You can't be serious, they want to stage the fight in a 20k arena, beterbiev from Montreal he has the fans, you always defending duva the kunt she needs to win purse bid then and be able to dictate terms

beterbiev vs barrera is actually a great fight beterbiev is russian doesn't sell well in canada **** stevenson couldn't sell in canada anymore if there is a real intent in making this fight happen on both sides i don't see why fight can't take place in the US.

Check your facts. GYM will be lucky if they sell 10k seats for this event because Bute's not the draw he used to be. Beterbiev is from Russia, been in Canada just 2 years, had 8 fights there - all undercard.
