Well, so long as you are happy that Golovkin clearly wants nothing to do with Ward, then fine, I have no problem either.

But that could be an ok fight, and Golovkin may benefit from having at least one excellent scalp on his resume.

Ward is fighting tune ups on BET and maybe the Cotto Canelo undercard.
He was never going to fight GGG this year.

Cotto is probably not getting by Canelo anyway. So more importantly, will Canelo drop the belt to avoid GGG? Wouldn't be very Mexican of him.

Cotto? Huh? Cotto ain't getting past Canelo and Cotto would never request a catchweight above 155 for a GGG fight. Actually I don't think Cotto would even waste time trying to negotiate a catch weight. He would go straight to vacate the title. If he was to some miraculous way manage to beat Canelo, he might even hand the title to Golovkin immediately after the fight to save the embarrassment of being stripped.

Golovkin would never accept a catchweight for a MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT and I would bet 10 Grand on that right now. What GGG wants is the title and if the winner insists on a catchweight or they will vacate, go right ahead and vacate because the title goes directly around Golovkin's waist. And THAT is the only thing that matters.

I do agree that there will not be a bid because if Cotto wins, there will not be a fight. If Canelo wins, he will accept the fight at 160 or simply vacate. Canelo will not play games.

on that point we simply disagree. Its easy for them to take that position now, because the fight isnt on the table, and why concede any negotiating positions this far away from the fight? But when they are looking at maybe a 6 or 7 million dollar payday (or more), they might look at it differently. I believe they would accept 157 or up, if the right economic package was present.

But I also think its moot because I dont think Cotto beats Canelo, so on that point we agree........

As I've told you before, I am not GGG's manager, so whether I am happy with his decisions or not is irrelevant.

You don't have a point, because if Cotto fought GGG it would be as a mandatory defence of the 160lb title, and he would not be able to demand a catchweight.

He could ask for one, and offer GGG a bigger share of the purse in return, but he couldn't demand one.
