The State of Boxing Now & Then

The power to be in Boxing clearly want to slow GGG down. He is getting too big, and the top dogs don't want it. Goldenboy, Etc. because GGG does it by fighting, they know the thing they've let the sport become, where holding, hugging, and clinching all night is not only allowed, it is called great. Now that GGG is doing it with power, footwork, movement, and agressiveness, fans love it.

You know who hates it, those who called Floyd's/Ward's/Lara's hug fest, clinch fest, run fest, great fighting.

Don't get me wrong, using good defense is great, but that is slips, movement, and counter punching. Not running around in circles. Not holding the other guys arms. Not excessive clinching.

That's never been considered great boxing, but boxing was in such bad shape, they needed new stars.

But Floyd didn't become a star because he was a great defensive fighter. He got that way because fans disliked him so much they wanted him to lose.

Hardly anyone enjoys what fighters like Ward, Floyd, Lara do in the ring.

They like Spence, GGG, Kovalev, Etc. Those who come to throw punches, do damage.

That doesn't mean take unneeded punishment, but if we cherish hugging, why not just let them tackle each other and hold their arms down.
