Guess people forget the beatings he took from Pacquiao and Magarito and even Trout.
Cotto was p4p #3 when Mayweather retired.

Cotto is the number 3 draw in boxing and has been for many years. How can a win change that negatively?

Cotto has already peaked as a draw, and is an older fighter, he doesn't have much upside because he is on his way out. Canelo has his whole career ahead of him.

The point is Cotto is already the number 3 draw, and a win will increase that. With out Mayweather it is absolutely possible that Cotto's last few fights will be the biggest fights in boxing. Especially if he were to fight GGG, and Pac continues to fight opponents like Rios and Algieri in China.

I doubt it, if Cotto wins, most people(mind you not people on this website) will not think he is a refreshed fighter but instead will think that Canelo wasn't that good to begin with. I am not saying that he won't get a slight boost popularity wise(legacy wise though it's a different story), but nothing too substantial, he is already as big as he is going to get. Also Cotto isn't fighting GGG.

I agree with some of what your saying, but I highly disagree with your assumption that if he beats Canelo he won't fight GGG. IMO if the GGG vs Lemiux PPV is successful and GGG wins. the fight with Cotto will be huge and a perfect fight to close out his career with, win lose or draw. But if The October GGG PPV flops other then die hard boxing fans no one will blame Cotto for skipping/ducking GGG. And for the record the GGG fight still hasn't sold out there are still many tickets available.

Just guessing, but Nietzche was a great philosopher & cultural critic, great moniker! His fans, would support him no matter what. Canelo might lose a few, disloyal fans, who jump on the next "brand name" boxer, and show how fickle fans can be! Just like those people in movies who say ****** crap, "I love you, but I am not in love with you!"

I love Canelo, but I am not in love with Canelo!

As you said, if he beats Cotto, and GGG, he would huge! I believe that SHO/HBO would then use every bit of their influence to make him a GOD.
Looking like the white kid next door good, not speaking English bad.
