The new fighters of today just aren't that good. It's why a shot to hell Erik morales could challenge maidana and Garcia. It's why Floyd and wlad are still dominating, there isn't elite talent like there was 10-15 years ago. That's why a guy like tszyu kicked Chavez 's ass, because fighters around that time were still upper echelon, once you get old you can't compete. Nowadays, the new guys just aren't good enough to beat experienced top quality vets.Last edited by El-blanco; 09-17-2015, 05:03 PM.

There does seem to be more top fighters doing well at a very late age these days than in the past. Still, the aging process is still there and almost all boxers will be better at 27 than they are at 32 and better at 32 than they are 37 and so on. Maybe better nutrition and better training methods help. The best fighters average only about 2 fights a year and they used to fight over twice that much so maybe that helps them last longer. Father time will catch up with all of them and I think Mayweather is wise to retire at 38. I couldn't blame him if he came back for one more fight and one more 200million dollar payday.

There have been millions of these threads and the same answers always pop up:
- Less fights, less taxing careers etc
- improved nutrition (to a certain extent) and better recovery post-fight
