Because in 2012 and 2013, Roman Gonzalez was not in the top 10 P4P rankings. Flash forward to 2014 and 2015, he made it to the #1 P4P spot. What happened with Roman Gonzalez going to the #1 P4P spot looks like he was given a Wormhole by the media to basically skip traveling through space and just get to the destination they want him in. That is very su****ious. It's what makes me feel like this is a push, rather a genuine climb up the P4P ladder. Like he was hooked up with a free ticket by the media because he gets KO's. Like they want him to be the next fighter to get international superstardom. He was chosen, he did not fight elites or great fighters to earn his spot.

The Yaegashi win in 2014 is the only win, if you look back and try to research to see what got him his sudden #2/#1 spot. The Yaegashi win is the only win you can think of that catapulted him from non top 10 P4P ranking to #1 P4P, which makes no sense. This nonsensical media push is not fair to a fighter like Kovalev. He is out here fighting former Ring champions and next probably fighting the current LHW champ if Haymon/Duva can work something out.

In the past, guys who made it to #1, like Mayweather and Pacquiao, had already been in the top 10 P4P rankings for years upon years. Before Floyd made it to #1 on the list in 2005, he had already been there steadily climbing since 1998 where he was #8, that's 7 years. Before Pacquiao became #1 on the P4P list, he was there since 2003 when he beat Barrera, and finally got #1 in 2008, after 5 years of being a top 10 P4P fighter.

Gonzalez became #1 after not even 2 years, with no wins to indicate such a big jump from nothing to #2.

      #22
      Estrada or Kovalev.
Whoever comes out of the Ruenrong, Gonzalez, Estrada, Inoue bracket should be P4P #1. Yes, even Ruenrong could be #1 lol.

        #23
        Mayweather before he became #1:
        1998 - Lineal/WBC 130 champ Hernandez - Floyd cracked the top 10 P4P with this win
        Top 5 P4P/#1 ranked 130 Corrales
        Top 5 SFW Chavez
Jose Luis Castillo for the vacant 135 Ring title
        Top 5 JWW Corley
        2005 - #1 ranked JWW/WBC champion Arturo Gatti - Floyd became #1 P4P

        Pacquiao before he became #1:
2003 - Ring FW champion Marco Antonio Barrera - Pacquiao cracks the top 10 P4P
        Erik Morales 2x
        Solis
        Barrera
        Marquez
        Diaz
        2008 - De La Hoya - Pacquiao ends 2008 as #1 P4P

Gonzalez wins to crack him in the top 10 rankings/get him #1:
2014: Ring champ Yaegashi - September - got him top 10 P4P ranking
        2015: 38-29 super-journeyman Valentin Leon, 51-8 Edgar Sosa, Floyd's retirement - Got him #1 P4P

1 year span, Gonzalez went from entering the top 10 P4P, to ranked as #1.

        Very sus.

Arturo Gatti was the #1 ranked Junior Welterweight by The Ring, he was also the WBC champion at 140.

              Champ: Tszyu
              1. Gatti
              2. Harris
              3. Mayweather
              4. Mitchell
              5. Cotto
              6. Hatton
              7. Corley
              8. N'Dou
              9. Leija
              10. Urkal

Harris lost on the May-Gatti undercard, Hatton retired Tszyu and became the champ, Cotto had just KO'ed Corley, and went on to fight 4 more times at 140. After the Gatti fight Mayweather and Mitchell pretty much moved up to 147 at the same exact time and fought eachother, Floyd stopped him.

Klitschko has beaten Haye, Thompson, Povetkin, Pulev & Jennings with Fury on deck.

Somehow he moved from #3 to #6...

I hate to say it but I think there's a degree of bias against European fighters being on top of these lists.

I said it last night, Kovalev and Wlad are top 3 P4P fighters. Wlad getting dropped to #6 with no loss, no long break, no retirement, no suspension...that's pretty ****ing gay if you ask me.

However i'm glad to see Kovalev getting some recognition as a top 3 P4P fighter though. The guy is not going to lose anytime soon and him vs Ward is the next #1 vs #2 P4P, 50-50 fight. Kovalev is more dangerous to Ward than Pacquiao was to Mayweather. First I want to see Kovalev KO Stevenson and also Ward beating DeGale.

Estrada win is solid and looks better with Estrada on a recent terror, but outside of that roman has beaten mostly washed up guys or paper champs.. His first title win was a legit big win as was Estrada, but after that it is just random no-hopers, faded names, and paper champs in the same vein as Lou del Valle, Kermit cintron, mickey bey, etc..
Roman deserve top 10 p4p, just not top 3..
Agree in general, but Broner and Gonzalez aren't a good comparison. Unlike Broner, Gonzalez has quality wins in all those classes. Broner didn't at 130. Gonzalez also beat the highest regarded guy (at the time he beat them) at 105 and 112. Broner did that at 135, but DeMarco was an indictment of how bad Lightweight was at the time. Niida was a much better, and more accomplished, fighter at 105 than DeMarco was at 135. Three fighters Gonzalez defeated (Estrada, Takayama, Rodriguez) went on to win unified portions of crowns (though Takayama's was a little manufactured). If Gonzalez finishes the run at 112 (say beating Viloria, Estrada again, and maybe someone like Nietes), he'll be able to say he's had the best Fly and under run since Canto in the 70s.

                    Has to do it still.

Apparently, Giampa isn't doing the list anymore which explains it being reconfigured.
