I'll give you my example of casual fans. I have 10 people coming with me to the garden to see GGG. Only one of my friends follows the sport like me and knows of Ward. The others just show for PPV fights we get. They have never been to a boxing match before, but are willing to pay good money to see Gennady Golovkin destroy people. He's just a special fighter people are intrigued by.
Pretty sure Andre Ward has routinely sold very well in Oakland.

Golovkin's first fight at MSG flopped and he was forced to go to smaller venues and lower ticket prices.

People would be willing to pay more to see Golovkin against a person who will actually test him.

    • It was only a Matter of Time Before Ward's nonsense was exposed

Ward basically is stuck on GGG for one simple reason, he has no fights, but doesn't himself want to take a risk. So he offers GGG a fight a 172, after the fact that GGG gets lined up for some huge fights.

Ward's out of the ring style is just as cowardly as his in the ring style.

GGG owes nothing to Mr. Clinchbody. Ward is livid he doesn't get the support GGG is getting. He is mad GGG is getting his own PPV, while Ward is fighting in his hometown, on BET, and still having to give away tickets.

Ward needs to understand that fans just don't care for that cowardly clinch fest he calls boxing.

Floyd sold doing the same thing, but purely off of generating hate for himself. Ward needs to go kick a few old ladies or something, because watching his fights sure doesn't win him any fans.

i still dont get why ggg fans wouldnt want to see this and yes we all want to see ward kovalev but why cant we have both? i just dont honestly get it. ward asked for so long just not to talk about him if u dont want the fight thats all he asked but abel just kept bringing him up none stop.

Also ggg been trying to get a mayweather fight for years im sorry i love watching ggg fight but im so tired of this new formula pretend everyone is scared then if anyone is favored to win pretend the fight makes no sense.

And im sorry but a ggg ward fight is basically the fight for number 1 p4p period. there is no better fight in boxing right now none not a single one. yes canelo ggg would be fun but its not a better fight. please stop giving ggg a pass on this fans cause i can promise u ward is going to fight kovalev its just a shame we cant have both fights instead this he said she said crap. i guess k2 is so worried about ward beating ggg and ending his image that the fight is impossible
Way to keep it 100% real with this post!

        • What I dont understand is why would they try and talk trash about Ward obsessing when they are putting all their cards on two guys that will not fight GGG for years if ever?

Oscar aint letting Canelo anywhere near GGG, and Cotto isn't touching him. So after he beats the french man than whos next? Lee? Thats it, thats all he has. Then he is right back at square one.

Meanwhile Ward has proven elite boxers in Degeale and Jack in his division that he can make fights with, beat them both and end up right back at the top of the p4p list. This would take any bargaining power that GGG had. Not to mention Chavez pretty much being a super middle, it is becoming a money division. GGG should bite on this Ward fight while he holds the chips because his time is slipping fast.

You're not giving facts man. They have been giving away free tickets to Ward fights to make it look full.

Gennady's fights at MSG did not flop. I was at both. The first against Stevens was in the theater and was sold out. But it only holds about 4 thousand people. The second fight was in the arena but only the lower bowl. It looked sold out to me from my seats. They have been bringing him along slowly there. Now in his third fight there he has sold out the entire arena!!! It's something really only Cotto does around here. It's a BIG DEAL.

How hard is Ward really trying to make this fight? He sent the offer after Lemieux/Golovkin was announced? He made it at 50/50 when Golovkin is the one who has to give up a weight advantage? When Hopkins wanted Dela Hoya & Trinidad he took whatever terms he could get and offered to come in at 157lbs. Same with Hagler for Leonard. If a bigger man really wants a smaller man to move up so bad, he'll do what it takes.

leonard, oscar and tito were the biggest stars in the sport.

you cant compare their star power to golovkin.

You have a wrapped view on who of the two has the buzz. Ward's last fight, in Oakland, his home state, he had to hand out free tickets.

GGG last fight at MSG broke records, and this next fight is doing even better.

Even if GGG is all hype (a absurd notion when you consider he knocked out 20 in a row, 30 of 33 fighters faced pro, as if others are doing into the same level of fighters), he'll always out sell Ward's clinch fest, sneaky cheat moves that put fans to sleep.

The article says they're about 400 seats available. Either way. I was at Wilder-Molina, which was sold out in a similar sized arena, with similar ticket prices. And I'm just assuming the average income in NYC is a little bit higher than in Alabama. Not to mention the differences in population. So how big a deal is it?

It's a shame because Ward seemed like one of the genuine guys one upon a time but then he obviously must have met some of the same team as Floyd and lost all the class he once had.
It would always be a hard buy to sell Ward even harder to make people fans of his, its time he grew up he isn't chasing a fighter in the same weight division unlike Khan was but for some reason the people who discredited Khan for chasing Mayweather are the same ones who are sticking up for Ward for chasing a guy who isn't even at the same division
You want to talk hypocritical, bias or idiotic answer that one then.

Ward should be selling out his home town he is American and its his damn home-town, you can be damn sure GGG would sell out a stadium of 60k in Kazakhstan hell he could likely do it in Russia or Ukraine too so what is Wards excuse?

Ward has had silver-spoon treatment from the start of his career, would Ward have been able to achieve what he has in GGG lifestyle?
I highly doubt it, one man is a tough guy who didn't have everything his own way the other... not so much.
