Neither are A-side, they could just fight.

And your perception that Team Golovkin will happily drop the catchweight demand for more money directly contradicts Team Golovkin themselves.

Look, Froch WAS the a-side when compared to Golovkin, end of story.....
..... sooooo, why didnt they pull a CW demand with Froch, in order to get a bigger piece of that BIG pie, instead of trying it with Ward, for a bigger piece of that little pie?

I dont believe that for one second, and I dont think you do either.

Also, they flatly refused to negotiate on the weight.

    It is what it is.
B-side to Froch is worth more than A-side to Ward. You see Froch actually has lots of fans who pay good money to see him fight. Ward doesn't.

The purse is always the issue. That's why you don't see Ward fighting on HBO.

    • I know it is not likely, but I hope Lemieux KO's Golovkin. If he does, Golovkin will fight a comeback fight and then his team will then beg Ward for a fight in 2016.

How hypocritical was it for Ward to tell Bute he needed to earn a shot, when an unproven Ward had the champion Kessler come to his hometown for his first shot without even ever being in an eliminator?

Respectfully, GGG wasn't concerned/concentrating on unifying the divisions when there were other offers at 168. SO falling back on this as his true goal doesn't seem plausible.

Ok, so long as you are willing to do this then we have no issue.

It seems most likely that Team GGG and HBO want to keep GGG undefeated because an undefeated GGG v Canelo would IMO be a huge fight. If GGG lost to Ward before that then the fight would lose a lot of luster.
GGG was also ready to fight Ward back then. But Ward himself wasn't ready and HBO weren't prepared to fund it.

Want to put all your points on the line for that? I'll give you 5-1 odds and spot you an extra 50,000 buys.

Or how about a one year self ban instead? I'll still spot you the extra buys.

I want the fight more than any other as well. But I have a life time of not seeing awesome fights not happen and it's all about the numbers. The last guy said back in the day, with Jones/Toney - ****, so many great fights never happened back then because of the numbers. It's always been that way. Greb never got a fight with Wilson for years, til the numbers made sense. Hagler never got his MW title shot til the numbers (thanks to Bob Arum) finally got right. Fans will always b*tch about the risk/reward ratio, but it's a reality.

If Ward wants this fight, he's got to give in and make the number right. The pressure should be on Andre right now to do that first. Even now, Ward's trying to demand a piece of the ppv from Canelo/Cotto, that's how ****ed up this guy is. He's killing his own career...
We will agree to disagree ^^

It is not about the financial package.

There is nothing to indicate that finance is the show-stopper.

                * Ward competed in a higher division during the 2004 Olympics
(the 2004 Olympics were NOT held in Oakland)

                * Ward won a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics

                * Ward signed to compete in a knockout tourney against the very best

                * Ward beat the heavily favored Kessler in the first round of the tourney

                * Ward won the Super-6 tourney, establishing himself as the best SMW on the planet and the P4P #2.

Since then, NOBODY has been favored to beat Ward for obvious reasons.

And that obvious reason, is why Golovkin will not fight him.

unifying titles means nothing in todays boxing.

you think if lamont Peterson unified 140, he would be a star?
hell kovalev has basically unified 175 and he is less popular than golovkin.
Of course people care about world title belts!

In boxing, stars become stars by winning world titles. How else are they going to do it?

It's always been that way and it always will be.

If Lamont Peterson was good enough to unify SLW he wouldn't be Lamont Peterson, so that's a silly question really.

GGG would not become a star just beating Andre Ward. Outside of hardcore boxing fans, nobody even knows who Ward is.

                    Exactly !

Which is why the 164 catchweight demand for Ward is an obvious duck.

There was much more money on the table for a Froch fight..... so if Golovkin was ever going to demand a catchweight in order to negotiate a bigger piece of the pie, he would have done so for Froch and Chavez.

Also, both of those guys are bigger than Ward

                    Come on man !

                      That fight was a mandatory.

It was a knockout tournament, and Kessler was the favorite

BTW, was Ward wrong about Bute ?

That guy got folded like a deckchair the very first time he stepped up.

Hypocritical is demanding a catchweight from Ward, and then refusing to give one to Cotto.
