After being with Golden Boy from the start, and by De La Hoya side for a decade, Schaefer submitted his resignation last June and walked away from the company.

There is a lot more to it than that.

Come on Oscar tell us the whole story, not the short convenient version.

      June 3, 2014:

"A guy like Richard, and let me say that we don't always agree on everything, really can't be replaced. I'll reiterate: Richard Schaefer cannot be replaced. Things will continue to be run (at GBP), but they won't, can't, be the same. Richard is a man who is stern when he needs to be stern, and fair when he needs to be fair. It's hard to find people like that in boxing. He's one of the biggest and most respected players there is. Even the people who don't care for him too much on a personal level have got to respect him when it comes to the way he does his job," Hopkins stated in an interview with Bernard Fernandez of thesweetscienc.com.

"Think about it. Who really ran Golden Boy? I'm not talking about popping up in the office once or twice a year. Who was there, doing the deals, on a day-to-day basis," he continued. ""Oscar's been talking to certain people [Bob Arum]. He's been tweeting. He showed up at Canelo's (Alvarez) camp. OK, he's rededicated, he's gotten himself together, he's burying the hatchet (with Arum). Great. But with him doing all that, is anybody really surprised that this thing with Richard happened? The only thing that's a shock is that it took this long to go down..."

"I don't have a contract with Al Haymon, but I wouldn't mind having one because he knows the business and he knows how to make the moves to get you where you need to be."
Yep, there is way more to it than Oscar's shortened version-of-events.

Also..... the straw(s) that broke the camels back was Schaeffer signing Lara/Canelo, and Hoya's demand that Schaeffer work with Top Rank.

Oscar left out all the good stuff.

And that was never going to happen.

Aside from all of the other factors, that alone was likely to cause a major split in Golden Boy Promotions.

The first rule of business is, never do business with somebody you cant trust.

Back in July 2010, during a press conference..... when Arum lied TO Richard Schaeffer, ABOUT Richard Schaeffer, whilst standing NEXT to Richard Schaeffer..... Schaeffer knew that he would never be able to trust Bob Arum.

So when Oscar demanded that Schaeffer burn 3 years worth of progress and work with Bob Arum, just so that he could tick a box in his 12-step program..... he put his drug addiction ahead of his business.

Oscar should have realised that Schaeffer was right, and he should have approached Arum personally/privately..... but what Hoya did was attempt to rebuild his reputation with the fans by promising to break bread with Arum regarding a potential Pacquiao/Mayweather fight.

Hoya fcuked up, so he should take responsibility for that. It looks to me like Schaeffer took advantage of the situation, I certainly wouldnt assume that he is blameless..... but Oscar fcuked up, no question.

Schaefer is a bridge burner. He's never been good at negotiations, thus bad as a partner in any business. He throws temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way. Even cut ties to express his displeasure. He lacks diplomatic skills. Only way he gets fights done is when he offer astronomical sums of money even on meaningless fights. It's a short-term fix. That's why he left GBP in financial disarray.

GBP was in disarray cuz they lost almost all their fighters & a bunch of investors left with Richard.

Richard did great work for GBP. After Mayweather vs Pacquiao Richard is responsible for the #2 & #3 most revenue & most PPV buys fights in boxing history. You can certainly judge his morals (although in boxing judging morals is easy since so few people have them), but not his business abilities.

Nah. If you're referring to his association with Mayweather and his PPV's, nah. GBP never made any money on those PPV's. TBE never liked sharing his profits to any promotional company. TBE is a greedy snake. He's 10 x greedier than Don King. Last I heard he handed a mere $2 million flat rate to GBP in the Canelo fight. Not even enough to pay for the expensive statewide tour.

Schaefer was just a ceremonial figure in all TBE fights. TBE is a greedy mofo.

He is one of the very best negotiators in the business, bar none.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

The bold is highly inaccurate, and could only loosely apply to Schaeffers dealings with Arum and Top Rank specifically.

Also, your post completely ignored why Schaeffer - and pretty much everyone else - finds it extremely difficult to deal with Top Rank.

Schaeffer did not leave GBP in financial disarray.

                Ridiculous post.

Schaefer wanted the Canelo vs Cotto fight desperately in his last days with GBP. He was clearly in trouble. Even offered Cotto $10 million guarantee. Like they always say, when you laugh the world laughs with you. When you cry you cry alone. This guy did a lot of work for free servicing TBE. He thought he was investing on something for personal gain. Maybe he'll get hired by TBE eventually. Who knows?
