* Pinto, a guy that was undefeated and had beat Cotto in the amateurs. The Myth
Miguel Cotto fights everyone. A warrior who fought everyone.
Really?
Miguel Cotto has had one of the most "PROMOTER CREATED" careers in boxing.
Top Rank matchmakers had to work overtime to get him his belts.
His 1st 3 belts were all vacant titles.
He won the vacant WBO 140 belt fighting Kelson Pinto.
He won the vacant WBC 147 belt fighting Carlos Quintana.
He won the vacant WBO 147 belt fighting Michael Jennings.
The 1st time he won a belt from a "CHAMPION" was cherrypicking Yuri Foreman.
Cotto never tried to unify and fight another "CHAMPION".
People thought Cotto was fighting everyone because he fought Zab Judah, Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito 2007-2008.
Judah hadn't won in 2 years when Cotto fought him. Winless in his 3 previous fights.
Mosley was 36 yrs. old and people thought he was washed up after going 1W-4L-1NC 2002-2004.
Margarito had just lost the previous year to Paul Williams and let's be honest Cotto and handlers thought Margarito was too slow and unskilled.
* Undefeated Quintana, Cotto demolished him, same Quintana that then schooled feared Paul Williams.
*Fought Margacheto when no one wanted to fight him.
*Beat a still good Mosley, who two fights later beat the **** out of Margacheato.Comment

Cotto is a great fighter, and a HOFer. Anyone dis*****g his ability and heart, is just hating. I'm glad this fight was made, because Cotto is facing a young strong fighter in Canelo.
And Canelo is facing a vet who has seen it all. Neither is overrated, neither is scared. It's two lions coming right at each other and something has to give.
I can't wait and I won't waste my time disrespecting either one of these bad ass moFo's.Comment

Classic Cotto stan hypocrisy...margacheato was just a plaster-fueled cheater....but mosley was elite because he beat a plasterless margacheato......* Pinto, a guy that was undefeated and had beat Cotto in the amateurs.
* Undefeated Quintana, Cotto demolished him, same Quintana that then schooled feared Paul Williams.
*Fought Margacheto when no one wanted to fight him.
*Beat a still good Mosley, who two fights later beat the **** out of Margacheato.
Cotto's resume is just OK, he didn't beat anyone who was a prime top 3 contender in any weight.....the closest in paper is Martinez...and how can anyone brag about that after the knees debacle. It's a good historic print for Cotto and probably what makes him a HOF'er......I do think his ability is almost elite, but his stamina and durabilty downgrade him to just a good fighter....not really a great.Comment

While I believe Cotto was a great fighter, he hasn't beaten anyone good since Mosley, maybe Clottey. Let's not fool ourselves since going to 154 and 160, he has beaten Foreman, Mayorga, Margarito, Delvin Rodríguez, a shot to hell Martínez and Daniel Gaele. He treats boxing like a business, he takes the fights that will give him the most money without risking much. I give him props for taking the Canelo fight, it'll be a tough fight, especially since Canelo's last 3 opponents have been legit opposition (whether you think he won or not that's another issue).Comment
