Hopkins took the fight because he had a mando due for one of his titles if he didn't sing a unification fight. That's why he had to do the deal in a hurry. The lawsuit was the icing on a cake. Golden Boy wasn't the main target of the lawsuit, Stevenson, his promoter and Al Haymon were.

Sure, only in this case the mandatory challenger had a network deal, not the champion. Kovalev was appointed mandatory to Stevenson's title with 50/50 split. A mando can walk away from a purse bid with no consequence to status quo. A champion would lose his title.

Yeah right, here we go. More nonsense, like we are supposed to forget when this first was first discussed it was Adonis who left HBO in a hurry. It was Adonis who said he left "for money" so now other people want to get money too and he's got an issue. Also funny this guy talking about fighting bums...the irony.

Hasn't anyone else noticed the glaring error in this article? Duva never asked for the purse bid, why would she ask for something she didn't want and knew she could not win?

As wee all know the unprecedented thing that happened was that the WBC made Kovalev Stevenson's mandatory at Duva's request. Unusual because as we also know Kovalev held other belts. GYM then asked the WBC for an immediate purse bid without the normal period of negotiations between the two parties involved.

The WBC granted the request and Duva backed out of the purse bid. I actually don't blame Duva. Why deal with someone that will not at least negotiate? And why didn't GYM negotiate with Main Events? They can't be that difficult to deal with after all they easily got the fights done with Bhop and Pascal.

As far as all the ducking crap. This is the way I see it. Kovalev has fought three Ring top ten fighters in a row and who has Stevenson fought?? And who has also garnered a deserved reputation of putting on a multitude of mismatches?? Do I really need to say who it is? As the old saying goes,"the proof is in the pudding!"

Karpency beat Chad Dawson, and Mohammedi was KO'd by Dmitry Sukhotsky in 2 rounds. Sukhotsky is the dude Stevenson knocked in round 5th in december 2014. Just do the math

That's how Stevenson will end up Kovalev, it's coming!

This guy is a joke, plain and simple! Kovalev made a MANDATORY against a bum, Stevenson is making optional defences against bums by CHOICE. Big difference, and who did Kovalev fight before Mohammedi?! Exactly Pascal & Hopkins. So F*** OFF STEVENSON!

Stevenson says Duva used him to get an HBO contract, then ducked him?

                    How would that even work?

Duva comes to HBO and says, here's Stevenson, we want to fight him and will fight him, even though that fight won't come to HBO as Al Haymon and HBO don't get along. HBO say, that's great, here's the contract. Then Duva says oops, won't fight Stevenson. Leaving both HBO and Stevenson conned?

Stevenson's name didn't help Duva get HBO contract. Now BHop's titles, that's another matter. Stevenson and his manager gave Duva a gift when they messed BHop around so he got fed up and made the fight with Duva in 2 days. If Kovalev had 1 title and Stevenson had 3, Duva would think twice about signing with HBO.

Besides, don't forget, Stevenson has no contract with Showtime. He has a contract with Al Haymon. Stevenson (in theory) is free to fight on HBO.

The party that needs to be put pressure on here is HBO. They should bankroll Duva's bid for the purse bid. And if they lose they should let Haymon run the fight. Kovalev is likely to win it and come back to their network as the only unified champ in boxing. They should take a risk.

                    • Kovalev clan had no contract with HBO at the time of purse bid.
                    • Sergey Kovalev signed his new deal with HBO, "AFTER" the WBC purse bid.
                    • Kathy Duva's acting, when she made her request of unification to the WBC, was a strategy to increase the notoriety & value of Kovalev, to make HBO re-sign him under a better & secured long-term contract.
                    • At the same time, Kovalev's team thought they would win their bluff, being convinced that Stevenson would have back off by leaving his belt vacant. Kathy thought that if Quillin did it, Stevenson could've do it also.
                    ERROR
Stevenson wanted that fight all along...
