He's making size concessions to an elite-level fighter who's not an economic draw. Both Oscar and Golovkin have good options staying where they're at, so there needs to be concessions from the bigger men. Obviously Nard took a third of the money, but he also came down in weight.

When Floyd moved up to face Castillo, he wasn't giving up speed, just size. Floyd turned down Stevie Johnston 2x at LW, when 'Lil But Bad' was considered just as solid an opponent. (Johnston lost by MD to Castillo then 3 months later was robbed in the rematch by majority draw).

Manny was the B-side to Barrera who was on the slide and not in his prime at that point. Manny had alot to gain and little to lose in that fight. He hadn't yet developed his reputation or drawing power.

I don't know if myself or some experts like Rold & Edwards would agree with that. If Ward retired today, he'll retire as a fighter with a short peak like Michael Curry - very special during a short period of time. That's because the meat of his career was the S6, Kessler & Froch to be precise.

And why can't the Ward/Kovalev happen first? It would make Ward/Golovkin at 168lbs a much much bigger fight. Ward stated he wants Golovkin first and then to move up to LHW 'the right way', because he doesn't want to concede a size advantage to Kovalev.
ODH had options, GGG doesn't have as many and is getting ducked by all good MW if he and his fans are to be believed, especially if Canelo loses to Cotto.

They were both the best in the division, which is what ward is. They got respect for that, GGG would get more by beating ward. If he is going to be spoken about like them, at least do something they did first and earn the comparison.

This suggests gggfeels he can't beat ward, which has been my point all along.

Fair point-a Kov win would make Ward a automatic HOF where as IMO he is not automatic if he ritired today.

Because going down in weight after going up can be problematic and because GGG is not a kid-he may never leave 160. Additionally-GGG showed a willingness to go to 168 for the money fights, to not go for the challenge says something, even if his fans ignore it or try to mitigate it.

Is GGG as good as HBO is marketing him? Beat ward, and you are. Lose to ward and you are not.

Sanchez is a drag, but GGG's actions indicate he IS old school. He fights frequently and seeks to dominate his own weight class as his first priority.

GGG has been consistent in his words and actions all along. On the other hand, Sanchez is a loudmouth who changes his tune, and who disrespects fighters. I don't like him.

I think Canelo ends up wearing him down late like Margarito Cotto 1.
Didn't you say that boxing was a what have you done for me lately.
I love cotto.. I m not buying the comeback.. not high on Canelo, but I think Canelo might be a bit much for Cotto.. should be a great fight though.

            - "No one from 154 to 168 will last 12 rnds, no one!!!"

Lara: "Hey, I fight you at 160"
Team GGG: "What?, Lara's team never reached to us."
Team Lara: "Yes we did. Lara (himself) calling GGG out in public."
Team GGG: "Ehhh, who the hell is Lara, has no name, no pull". (went and fought Monroe)

            B-Hop: "You know what?, I'll fight GGG @ 168."
Team GGG: "Ehhhh, this is a fight we MIGHT consider later on." (dude is 50+ yrs lmao)

Ward: "Team GGG needs to keep my name out of their mouths, if they have no intention of fighting me, when I can get back in a ring."
Team GGG: "Heck, we fight Ward, that's the fight we really want."
Ward: "Ok legal issues resolve, signed w/ RN, will have a fight to take rust of @ 172, then I want GGG at 168."
Team GGG: "We the A side, we the A-side, Ward has no say, we'll do it @ 164, we A-side."

            LMBO!!!! hahaha....bunch of clowns!!!
Lara: he was calling GGG out after his fight with Delvin Rodriguez (which was in June). First off, why would GGG fight him when he has a PPV bout against a belt holder at his weight class? Also, does anyone really think that Lara, the guy that had a very close fight against Canelo, would actually beat Golovkin? Also, good luck getting Lara's promoter to make this fight happen for such a low amount of money. Lara's not even a popular draw.

Bernard Hopkins: the same guy who weighed in 186 vs Pascal. Golovkin's such a coward. Same for

Andre Ward: double standards. You people criticize GGG for wanting to fight Mayweather Jr (the biggest name in boxing equaling more fame and $$$), but fail to realize Andre Ward:

            a) has been a professional boxer for 2 years longer than Golovkin
            b) actually cleaned out his division (thanks to the super 6 tournament)
            c) still has not changed weight classes
            d) said he would fight anyone from 168-175 (still waiting on that Ward vs Kovalev)

            K.

I agree GGG is old school, and really cares about the sport.

I think Abel felt he needed to talk for Gennady because he was being avoided and his english wasn't very good. Now Gennady can speak fairly well and has been calling guys out after fights Abel should talk less. I like that he speaks his mind though, and I still consider Roach way worse at this.

              • GG is a joke.

He's too busy padding his paper record with paper belts to take on the best available.

Yea I meant it, Cotto has gotten a lot of money and praise for what he has done lately. But how you view the fights, especially the Martinez fight is all relative. He is at least taking a tough challenge in Canelo.
