  • Comments Thread For: Bernard Hopkins on Why He Turned Down Beterbiev

Bernard Hopkins, 50-years-old, was recently ordered to face undefeated hot prospect Artur Beterbiev in a final IBF light heavyweight eliminator to face Sergey Kovalev for the 175 pound IBF World title. Hopkins has been inactive since losing a twelve round decision to Kovalev last year.

Hopkins passed on the opportunity to face Beterbiev, because he so no reason to face the up and comer and said his decision to turn down the fight had nothing to do with Beterbiev being managed by Al Haymon or the association with Premier Boxing Champions.

Bhop gets a pass. No 50 year old should be fighting a ****ing beast like beterbiev not even the alien. I'm ok with bhop fighting b level fighters to make more $$$ then retiring. He has nothing left to prove, he deserves some easy fights farewell fights.

Hahah Hopkins knows he can't afford to lose TO ANOTHER , as he calls them, "white boy."

He already can't show his face in certain parts of PHILLY without little black boys walking in NV

He should have taken it, I think he could embarrass the rigid beterbiev

Yeah BHOP has done it all and no one can argue that a 50 year old should be fighting someone as dangerous as beterbiev.....but he'd get even more respect off me if he would come out and tell the truth that these modern eastern European elite fighters are just too good for how modern black boxers have become....that being defensive, picky prima donnas ..modern elite Europeans are big for their weight, don't shy away from challenges, have better technical fundamentals and are massive punchers. Golovkin, Froch, Kovalev, Beterbiev and the Klitschkos are some mean mofos and it's good to see them bringing boxing back to where it should be.

If BHop were to beat Beterbiev, he gets another fight with Kovalev.

If he were to beat Abraham, which I think he could do, he gets another world title in a 3rd weight division.

If he can still make 168, it's pretty clear which option he should go for.

I don't blame BHop. Dumb pointless fight. Go after SM Title.

Abraham is the easier fight and gives him the title in his 3rd weight class.
