He needs to go back to 154
With Cotto though, he was walking around at close to 170 years ago and has been coming over 160 on fight night for years too. He is at a level playing field by fighting at 160. For some reason or another he doesn't like it and feels he needs a catch weight to stay on top. I mean it would be like if Khan drained himself to 142 for a welterweight fight and made for instance Maidana come to 144, all because he is a "small" welter. Even though Khan himself weighs around 156 on fight night

But with Cotto in regards to 160....he is a natural middleweight. He rehydrates comfortabely almost to 170! Just because he can dry himself out to 153 doesn't mean he is at SUCH a disadvantage! H*ll GGG can make 154, it doesnt mean he is a naturally smaller man. Cotto is a averagely sized middleweight and he needs to stop acting like he is Floyd fighting Canelo at a 24lb weight defecit on fight night or Pac against Margs with a 18lb defecit

And how is my post garbage???????

Come fight night Pac weighed 148lbs while Margarito weighed 165lbs. So who had the advantage??
Cotto/Canelo is another fight where I have no issue with the cw. Neither fighter is a full fledged MW therefore there's no sacrifice to either fighter by having to make a specified cw. The fight is being held at 155 which falls within MW territory. Just because the fighters arent weighing in at the full limit does not mean it isnt a MW fight. MW is from 154.01 - 160.
Where I do have a problem is when its being used to purposely gain an advantage on an opponent and even then there's some grey area because if the opponent feels uncomfortable making a specified weight, then dont take the fight only to cry about it after.
There are only two reasons a fighter would require a catchweight.....
1) he cannot compete with his opponent because of size disadvantage
2) he is trying to disadvantage his opponent to gain an edge
The answer is simple for both reasons..... fcuk off back to your own division and fight someone meaningful.
Catchweights are completely unnecessary, so your willingness to drop your standards is a little disappointing.

Scared..doubtful. Agree but Cotto leveraging his star power a la Money. Dont agree with this CW BS. He should be fighting GGG instead. Legitimacy of MW title at stake imo.
Fighting and losing to GGG would've done more to add to his legacy whereas canelo serves him nothin more than a decent payday win or lose...Last edited by PR ESQ.; 08-19-2015, 05:35 PM.
