The last sentence in the article is incorrect !
" Of course the fighters could choose to relinquish the belt if they decide to have an immediate rematch ".
It should read .....
" Of course the fighters could choose to relinquish the belt, for any reason they want, including a scheduling clash with a hairdresser ".
Highly unlikely that either of those stars will be pushed into anything, let alone into an actual boxing match at middleweight.
If the winner does decide to defend, then Golovkin better get used to midnight runs and the taste of lettuce..... otherwise, he can bank a vacant title.

He will demand a catchweight, just like Golovkin did to Ward.
If they dont accept, he will refuse to negotiate further and likely be stripped.
There is more chance of Canelo dumping that belt than him accepting a deal that he is not happy with. Cotto is a star, and he cant walk over Canelo, so Golovkin will likely be doing whatever he is told.
Golovkin will likely have to chew lettuce or else fight {insert bum here} for a vacant title and 500k.
