Peter Quillin to fight Michael Zerafa

In El-Blanco's defense, calling that fight the "Mayweather-Berto spectacle" is a sig-worthy statement if I've ever heard one.note: the sig bit is getting on my nerves.
Mayweather-Berto, for all the critique put on the fight, will still have Martinez-Salido II, Jack-Groves and a third fight on the undercard. On top of that, you get a so-so fight (Vanes-Smith) during the hype for the show for the cost of your Showtime subscription, in addition to a doubleheader to start the afternoon on NBC (or NBCSN, as the channel hasn't been made clear).
Floyd has basically been stacking his undercards since he became free to dictate his own career, which was the point I was making.Comment

The spectacle part is great but the sales pitch is what makes it great. The guy sold the fight better than Floyd.Comment

lol. gtfoh with that bull****. Quillin fought in April, is setting up to fight Sept 12, and will likely be fighting again come November/December.You can take a 'stay busy' fight when you fight three or four times a year like GGG. When you fight once or twice, you have no right to take a stay busy fight. Quillin has gone from a possible 'superfight' against GGG to a so called 'superfight' against Jacobs. That is not a superfight, it's a school yard tussle. And he isn't even getting that done, he is fighting an unknown.
But it's free!!!!! Yeah, you get what you pay for. Unless it's a Mayweather fight.
He's getting busy and, with Lee, Zerafa, and the assumed Jacobs fights, he'll actually end up putting in a year that would **** on any year Golovkin has ever had as a professional boxer.Comment

Mayweather fights have been spectacles, arguably since the Cotto fight (and even that fight may count as a spectacle); no one walks into a Mayweather fight expecting Floyd to sc**** and claw through a fight so, rather than sell the actual fight, Floyd sells the event or "the spectacle" of the fight.
Mayweather-Berto is going to be sold as "come see Floyd one last time before he rides off into the sunset"; in addition to that, which has been a hallmark of Floyd's cards for some time, you'll also get to see full night of fights before the "Mayweather Show".
If I was in-artful in what I wrote, so be it.Comment

Golovkin would KO each one of those guys within four rounds, probably even give Jacobs cancer again. Sorry, just not impressed with Peter getting a draw against Lee, fighting some bum to set up a Jacobs fight likely next year.lol. gtfoh with that bull****. I mentioned in another thread that I felt James De La Rosa is a equally beatable opponent, but has the Angulo win & Mexicanness to drum up more ratings & just a more intriguing matchup than a unknown Aussie who got 100% owned in his first & only legit fight. I'm sure there are others, but didn't delve into it too hard tbh.Who would you put Quillin in with for September 12th as the co-feature to an afternoon show on NBC/NBCSN? one possible name would be fine (understanding that the believed plan is to stage Quillin-Jacobs next come the late Fall/early Winter).
Not jumping for joy about the matchup, but it's a stay busy fight and Zerafa, from only seeing the Mogamedov(sp?) fight, seems to be decent enough for a stay busy fight.
I think putting big name cats in with completely anonymous opponents is a legit problem PBC is having even as one of the big supporters of PBC. They need to put a little more effort into fight selection, matchmaking & venue location. Those areas could be greatly improved & I suspect they will be when Richard S. takes the helm (or I suspect he will take the helm & he would improve those things anyway, maybe I'm wrong), but right now doing dumb **** like Quillin fighting some unknown when he's a peer to GGG to some degree still, having the battle of Ohio in Las Vegas & just throwing together so many whatever fights vs unknowns for their name guys is hurting their PR a great deal. My assumption is PBC is trying to create a whole new wave of boxing fans & they know you & I will be watching if Wilder defends vs the cashier at my local grocery store so they aren't trying to sell to us at all right now necessarily, but just build up their names into names for the people who weren't really paying attention to boxing. I think they can throw together better cards at more sensible locations involving more competitive fights where "their guy" still wins is I guess my major issue with this fight & some other ones. If this was just an infrequent thing I doubt I'd have a problem with it either cuz every power broker in the sport is guilty of it sometimes, but it seems like its happening far too often with PBC.Comment
