Comments Thread For: Team Beterbiev's Response To Kovalev's Promoter

In an earlier story on BoxingScene.com, promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events expressed her disappointment in an email that was written to fellow promoter Yvon Michel - regarding Artur Beterbiev's decision to take a pass on her offer for a November 28th showdown with IBF/WBO/WBA light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev in Moscow, Russia.

As BoxingScene reported, Michel's fighter was ordered to face Bernard Hopkins in a final IBF eliminator. It's still up in the air on whether or not Hopkins will actually accept this fight, but he has until Thursday and Beterbiev's team have decided to have one more fight prior to facing Kovalev.

Pretty much, IBF will be strict on the timing too. Kovalev will be forced to vacate before ever becoming unified LHW champ (across 4 belts).

Wonder who Kovalev will fight next in Russia, maybe Yunieski Gonzalez.

Has nothing to do with the money. Just turned down a shot at the championship and a payday 2-3 times what he making now. Instead wants to fight for eliminator to force a purse bid so they can win the championship by vacate. Shameful and completely transparent move by Haymon

Not so sure, it would be 75-25 in Kova's favor. This isn't like Stevenson who has a belt. Beterbiev is a challenger.

We know what happens already though, fight ain't gettin made.

OR he wants to fight the legend, if he still fights which i don't think he should, or a highly ranked fighter, get the win, get exposure and gain the fans And knowing HBO budget is in the can, they are thinking a big win and new budget next year will not only be a bigger fight but a more lucrative one...but no youre right theres no other possibility then they want to win a vacated title.
