Most of his defences were pretty solid and he ruled 160 for quite a while - which is even more impressive considering he was a natural 154lber.
The Chavez Jr win was not seen as an impressive win. It was seen as a payback fight for Martinez because of what the WBC did to him and how he was played by HBO. Everyone thought Martinez would KO Chavez Jr. That was not a big win at all. Not at the time, and certainly not now.

He beats Mayweather at 154 (that was when he was still a top P4P fighter), destroyed by GGG at 160 (who he wasn't too interested in fighting at first but changed his mind afterwards) and gets outboxed by Ward at 168 (he said there would need to be a catchweight because his normal weight was around 167-171).

A HOF fighter without a doubt!!! He often came into fight and looked to fight the best... Sadley Boxing politics kept a lot of great fights for Martinez to make.

The thread ended with this post. Sergio is a HOF first ballet boxer to fap to.

He got knocked down like every fight or every other fight. GGG would have gotten quite a few KD against Martinez.

True, but most of them were off-balance KDs. Aside from the Marg KO, he was never hurt until Chavez landed his monster shot and even that was not enough to keep Martinez from attacking him.

He was a strong champion for years. Definite hall of famer but falls short of great status because he lacks that win over a hall of fame fighter.

he only said he would fight ggg right before the cotto fight(a fight he knew he would lose since he had no knees)

Martinez was a shot fighter before Golovkin became relevant though. At that point his name and title was being sold to the highest bidder.
