I think he was one of the worst of the middleweight champs and just a good fighter, not an all time great or hall of famer. He fought several 154 pounders as middleweight champ and he ducked Pirog and GGG. He lost to Williams, drew with Cintron and was knocked out by Margarito and Cotto. He got a gift win over Murray. He caught Pavlic at just the right time. All in all a good but not a great fighter in my opinion. Maybe the Cintron and Williams fights were bad decisions but GGG would knock guys like that out quickly and easily.

      Hall of famer...

Long time welter that really never got a crack at a title

      Champion at 154

Champion at 160 and had a decent reign

In his biggest fights he had excellent wins over williams, pavlik, Chavez

The loss to cotto was embarrassing but serg was clearly shot.. He should have lost the Murray fight.,, chavez ruined serg in that 12th round

One of the top 5-6 careers of his generation I think. And one of those unique talents that only comes along maybe once a decade, but adds interest to the sport. Finally a very cool dude.

I'd pick GGG over a prime Sergio but I wouldn't put much money on it.

I think he could go into the HOF. Not sure if he deserves it.

As i said before Sergios career is particularly impressive for 3 reasons.
            1. he started boxing at age 20
            2. it took him ages to get the big fights
            3. his career was cut short by injury-with good knees Serg would have had a couple years left.

good potential, just had a glass chin. impressive win against Chavez jr but nearly got ktfo by him and every other average opponent. very solid heart though and entertaining! I always said no version of Sergio beats Golovkin. nobody who gets KO'd by margarito and dropped or hurt by the likes of lee/barker/murray/jr/tba goes 12 with golovkin. Sergio was a great personality though, very humble

He came and went so quickly. He was this bicyclist turned boxer with a slow start, got famous from the Williams & Pavlik fights then boom he was old.

He severely damaged his reputation by taking the Cotto fight in such terrible shape and "smuggling" knee braces under those XXXL parachute pants trunks after the commission denied him permission to wear them. But he needed the cash I guess and decided reputations are just imaginary things.

He was a very good fighter and had s very good career.

Unfortunately he didn't get the biggest fights until near the end of his career when his body began to break down. He should have retired after the Chavez fight, he was completely done by the time he fought Murray and Cotto.

Sergio had a fantastic career. Like a lot of people in the thread have already mentioned he may or may not be 'Hall of Fame' worthy but in terms of giving us great memories he's right at the top, the kind of guy you can tell stories about and reminisce over.

i think he was waaaaaaay overrated. He doesn't belong in the HOF imo.

He lost to Margarito, Williams, and drew with Cintron. He barely beat Murray. He got way to much hype for beating two weight drained drunk bar fighters in Pavlik and Chavez jr.
