because it's very likely that Ward will beat GGG easy, make him look ******, so asking 164lbs is a way of hiding away from the fight

as the article states, golovkin has not weighed below 158.5 lbs in his pro career. i know that sanchez has made comments to the contrary in the past, but all signs point to ggg being significantly weakened if he had to fight at 156 lbs or whatever (just like ward would be at 164 lbs)

If it came down to it, for the opportunity of a landing a mega-fight, I think Golovkin would jump to fight Cotto/Alvarez at 155lbs. What team Golovkin says now and what they'd say at an actual negotiation table would be a bit different.

Lineal title aside, I see Cotto/Alvarez having atleast one rematch and Golovkin taking the full WBC MW title in the mean time. By the time Alvarez is done with Cotto any CW below 160lbs would probably hurt him as much as Golovkin, he's getting older and that weight cut will be getting harder.

No need for GGG to agree on cw, he´s the mandatory and the belt is 160. No catch weights should be allowed in title fights, period. Queen Cotto can go get a 154 belt if MWs are too big for him, simple as that really.

Gennady Golovkin, who might be the best middleweight -- hell, one of the best boxers, pound for pound -- who you don't know, was at Madison Square Garden scouting Sergio Martinez Saturday night.

Cotto's the A-side. He can demand whatever he wants.

Then he can **** off and vacate the damn belt. One way or another golovkin is getting the wbc belt, whether he has to fight cotto, canelo,or delahoya,or jayz himself for it.
